Meet Eboni Bright of Urban Wax Candles in Frisco

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eboni Bright.

Eboni, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Candles have always been a part of my synergy- happy and in love, celebrating with friends or listening to music with a broken heart- they were always part of the process.

I remember growing up, my mom would burn candles regularly (almost daily), having a home that was clean and smelled warm and inviting was her own little piece of heaven.  It wasn’t until NYE 2018 were things had come full circle; I’d been home sick with the flu since Christmas and decided to spend the first day of the New Year doing something different.  I ordered a starter candle kit off Amazon and spent the day making candles with my husband.

For a while, I made them as a hobby and only burned them at home.  After giving a few as gifts, I began noticing the responses and the doubt started fading away.  The idea of Urban Wax Candles was sparked.

I spent about two (yes, two) years developing custom fragrances and perfecting a naturally sourced wax blend.  Anytime you take that long to develop something the temptation to quit can be overwhelming but I took my time and the result is a product that I am incredibly proud of.

Urban Wax Candles – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Urban Wax Candles is aimed at women who crave experiences, a life well-lived, and moments that have been well considered. She is rooted in freedom and change but prefers her changes to feel more like curated seasonal statements than a total overhaul. We are liberating, stylish, and vivid… but with the perfect balance of glamor and grit. The blend is the equivalent of an evening at Studio 54 where the DJ is spinning Drake.

Our candles are all hand-poured in our studio in Frisco, Texas.  The 100% naturally sourced wax is blended in small batches with fragrances and essential oils.  Our candles are 100% phthalate-free and will burn cleanly all the way down.  Every single candle is poured by hand, labeled by hand and shipped right here from our studio

We currently offer a selection of 3.0 oz travel candles specifically designed for moments of renewal, love, and celebration.  We also offer curated trios that are packaged in our signature UW boxes with custom labeling.  If you’re purchasing as a gift we offer our signature “I Make Sh*t Smell Good” drawstring gift bags.  We will slowly expand into larger vessels but wanted to take our time and enjoy the sweet moments of starting small.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Being hype-creative has its drawbacks, while I was incredibly proud of our product and the time spent developing Urban Wax Candles, I had so much doubt the night before our first pop-up shop. What if no one liked it? What if they thought the fragrances were terrible? What if my brand didn’t speak to anyone other than me? These were all questions running through my mind but I powered through the doubt (with the help of my amazing husband) and not only were the candles a success, several customers thought we were an extension of a big brand. To think of how nervous I was only to exceed my expectations just goes to show you where faith and confidence will lead!  Our big launch on 11/11/19 will definitely be the next big moment for Urban Wax Candles.
