Meet Eden Bullock of Taste Buds Kitchen in Southlake

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eden Bullock.

Eden, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Originally from Colorado, I moved to Texas to attend Texas Christian University where I graduated with a BA in French Language. Upon graduation, I headed back to Colorado to attend Johnson & Wales University pursuing a degree in culinary arts which has always been a passion. Since that time, I’ve enjoyed developing as a chef in the industry. With a passion for pastry, my path led me to pastry arts in fine dining in the Vail Valley and onto the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs. I ventured out to explore very diverse types of cuisines from classical French to Mediterranean to Asian fusion.

In order to hone my skills in business operations and management, I began to spend time in the front of the house. Partnered with a Master’s degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, I continued to explore every facet of food service management. Eventually I married my passion of cooking with the business acumen and care for people needed to run a successful operation and found myself taking the steps to own my own business.

Today, I am the proud owner of Taste Buds Kitchen where I’m able to combine all of my passions. I am fortunate to share what I love with so many and inspire many budding chefs of all ages in the kitchen.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
As much as I love cake, I’d certainly love to say, “It’s been a piece of cake!” Entrepreneurship is not for the faint of heart that’s for sure. However I think that in order to do big things and do great things that benefit so many people, you must be willing to take risks and find the opportunity in every challenge.

I’ve learned daily to stand strong in my faith and “walk by faith, not by sight.” 2 Corinthians 5 I’ve been very humbled by not knowing what’s ahead and learning to let go and trust that I’ve made the right decision to walk away from a very safe and not-fulfilling corporate job in food-service.

What sustains me daily is my amazing team of chefs and culinary professionals. We are small, but mighty and truly are a family. It’s a joy to go to the kitchen every day to share in the lives of each other and those of our budding chefs. We share lots of laughs and love, for food and each other.

Taste Buds Kitchen – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Taste Buds Kitchen is revolutionizing the way kids, families and adults experience the kitchen from our signature Summer Camps to our Birthday Parties, Parent & Child Workshops, Adult BYOB Classes, Team Building Events, Bridal, Bachelorette and Bachelor Parties. TBK has something for everyone. We are bringing a service to Southlake which cannot be found anywhere else in the metroplex. There is a need for more family friendly culinary activities which can help grow the imagination, empowerment and creativity for participants of all ages.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Over the years, my definition has changed. I have realized that money, fame, recognition or anything of the like don’t feel like what success should feel like. I have everything that I’ve every prayed for and although I have my ups and downs, I feel very successful because I am helping people in many different ways and am happy to do what I do every single day. My 13 year old son recently told me that he was going to be very successful when he grows up. I asked him what that meant to him. He said, “To be happy and help others.” I couldn’t have said it better myself.
