Today we’d like to introduce you to Eileen Chen.
Eileen, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My journey all started as a child. Growing up in a family of healthcare providers, I’ve always wanted to change people’s lives. With dentistry being one of the most feared industries, I wanted to change the perception of dentistry and reduce the fear many people share when going to their dentists. I also grew up having an entrepreneurial spirit. Dentistry would allow me to own my office and to cultivate a new dental culture where patients would feel comfortable, relaxed, and be treated as an individual with individual needs.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
After four years of dental school, one year of advanced training, and gaining eight years of private practice experiences, there were definite challenges achieving my goal of becoming a business owner. One of the major challenges during my journey was finding the right time to start a family. I’ve always wanted to become a mother, and after years of trying, my husband and I are finally pregnant. I’ve learned there is never a right time in your life to begin your dream. Sometimes you have to take the plunge and with the support from family and a great team, you will land on your feet. We are all capable of anything we set our minds to. With careful planning and wonderful support from my husband and business team, I am finally opening my first office by the end of 2017.
Please tell us about Illume Dental.
Illume Dental is a general and cosmetic dental practice that offer services in preventative, pediatric dentistry, whitening, veneers, crowns, root canals, mercury free fillings, dentures, periodontal treatment, implants, extractions, and Invisalign. We strive to bring the highest level of comfort and care to patients in our community.
We commit to be the leader in general dentistry by providing the highest quality of care. We build long lasting relationships through active listening to patient’s needs and desires, and tailoring the experience and outcome to the patient as an individual. Our staff members are motivated, talented and dedicated individuals who provide personal services for our families. The doctor and staff are proud of our practice, our level of service and our involvement in the community. Through teamwork and education, we encourage lifelong oral health.
We strive to create an office culture that is fun, laid-back, and positive. We want to provide a great client experience. To heighten their experiences, we offer a modern but warm atmosphere, dual overhead and mounted TVs with Netflix and headphones and free in-office whitening when clients maintain their cleanings and treatments every year.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Throughout my childhood, I was fortunate to travel around the world with my parents. My earliest memory was my trip to Germany when it was still divided between East and West Germany. The most memorable trip was my visit to Israel and bathing in the Dead Sea. With each trip, my dad would always teach me a little history and culture of the country we were visiting. I became more appreciative and respectful of the differences in culture, religion, and people. Life is more beautiful with diversity.
