Meet Erica Bridges of Elegant Scents by Erica

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica Bridges.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Erica. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I got started late last year when I was still doing residential house cleaning. I wanted to provide my current customers with something that would be complimentary to cleaning their home. What better way than create what many people use, including myself to make their homes smell good already.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Nothing is ever a smooth road in life, at least anything worth having long term I should say. There’s a science to candle making. I had to learn about different waxes, wicks, and the method of getting smooth tops. My first attempt was a disaster. I immediately was frustrated and wanted to give up. I had issues with sinkholes or the scent not being strong enough. I remember hearing ET the HipHopPreacher say “Yes you have a dream, but the process is not suppose to be comfortable.” I stuck with that mindset and kept pushing. Anything new I try is a learning experience and there’s something new for me to learn every day.

Please tell us more about your business.
My business is a handmade candle company specializing in hand-poured soy candles, custom orders and home decor. I’m most proud of the feedback I get from customers and individuals who are motivated to start a business or just love my candles and express that to me. Something that sets me apart is that my gift boxes come with words of affirmation. Anyone who has purchased one received a handwritten card. Small acts of kindness goes a long way. We go through challenges in life and I wanted to provide my customers with something to help lift their spirits. I do plan to incorporate more of that with individual candles.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
The candle business is estimated to rise to 11.7 billion by 2025. There will always be a demand for candles whether it’s votives, birthday or home decor candles. Customers are purchasing more candles that has a meaningful feeling and in touch with nature. Other rising trends are sustainability, heavy statement pieces and using bright colored candle vessels. I plan to be apart of some of these trends as they continue growing. Candles leave a lasting impression.
