Meet Erica Fein and Kelli Jones of Shear Angels Salon in Allen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica Fein and Kelli Jones.

15 years ago Erica and her family decided to move to Dallas, Texas from Rochester, New York after the economy tanked due to the 911 tragedy in 2001. She began her career by enrolling into Paul Mitchell the school in Carrollton Texas, only completing 500 hours, this lost teenager couldn’t seem to find her place in Texas. So a couple years later she decided to apply for a job with Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, she realized the beauty industry was exactly where she wanted to be. So with the help of some very close friends and family she enrolled herself back into school at ITS Academy of beauty in Plano. After working for a few years, she decided to apply for a chair at an independent salon in Allen Texas, not knowing that this is where her life would really begin. Kelli Jones was the manager of this salon, and hired Erica on the Spot.

Kelli, born and raised in Texas, has been doing hair for seven years. She attended the ogle school, and started Working directly under a master stylist in the Highland Park area immediately after graduation. Erica and Kelli realized they must’ve been Sisters separated at birth. They graduated the same year, have very similar sense of humor, and completely complemented each other when it came to business. So these two decided to go out on their own and go into business together. Now here they are, Shear Angels salon. Established in January 2016, these partners have been working together seamlessly ever since.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Although we do not like to dwell on the negative, of course there were obstacles we had to overcome. Shady salon owners, naysayers, and financial lulls weren’t enough to stand in our way. We saw a much bigger picture and worked very hard every day to make that picture a reality.

Please tell us about Shear Angels Salon.
These women are masters of several specialties, including mermaid hair, vivid hair, platinum or silver blondes, formal hair and makeup, and just plain making people feel beautiful. “We are most proud of the fact that we deliver high-end quality hair, in Allen Texas. You shouldn’t have to drive 45 minutes to have modern, on trend hair colors and styles.” In the more conservative community of Allen Texas, we stand out with our vivid hair and multiple tattoos, showing others that you don’t have to be contained inside a box to fit in.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Erica: My favorite childhood memory is altering the hair and makeup of all of my Barbie’s as well as making all of them brand-new clothes. (I was into the beauty industry from the start.)
