Meet Fatima Starks of Fatima’s Haus of Beauty in Uptown Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Fatima Starks.

Fatima, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Since a young child, I’ve always been the creative and had an interest in all things beauty. However, I wanted to go the blue collar route and get a typical 9-5. I wasn’t ready to take risks of being an entrepreneur and wanted the stability that corporate America had to offer, especially with small children.

While working, I began to freelance on weekends. Often for co-workers, people I would meet out in public, and friends, but mostly from people who’d seen my work online. I knew I eventually wanted to freelance full time, but I had so many “what if’s”. I kept thinking, I don’t have enough clientele, the retail hours are everywhere, it won’t make me enough money…etc. I knew this is what I wanted to do, but I didn’t have a plan yet.

I started my career as an auto claims adjuster, quickly moving up to personal injury claims. And although the money was great, I felt like I needed to change. In the course of a few months, I got hired on to a well know Personal Injury Law firm in Dallas and began my career in Litigation. The money was great, but I felt like I had a bigger purpose here on earth and this was not it. In between cases, I began building my brand, my kit, & my public image for what was to come.

That summer I left the law firm, not knowing what was next to come… but I had a plan! I bought a planner and began to write everything that I seen for myself in the near future. The first thing was enrolling in beauty school. BEST DECISION EVER. While in beauty school, I learned more about brand and marketing and began to start a name for myself. Everyone at school knew me as THE makeup artist. It was to the point where even the staff and instructors booked me for events.

While in school, I applied for a job at one of the industry’s leaders in cosmetics & social media and surprisingly got the job three days later! Since then, I’ve been promoted to management and I’m now working in my career field! I can proudly say that I am a full-time makeup artist & entrepreneur!

Remember, a goal without a plan is just a dream! Write it down, plan it out, and Make it happen 🙂

Has it been a smooth road?
Some of my struggles that I faced was just getting started. I knew what I wanted to do, but was afraid to make that leap!

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am a freelance makeup artist, specializing in bridal and skincare! What sets me apart in this industry is that not only am I a makeup artist, I’m an Esthetician. Meaning that you can ensure proper sanitation and skin care. I not only care about the final look, but I know a flawless application starts with flawless skin!

I feel like Dallas is the perfect place to start your business! People from all over move here, just because of the opportunity!
