Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Tucker.
Laura, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
In December 2014, Finders Keepers Candles was launched to create a cleaner burning candle without harmful chemicals and to provide a luxurious, creamy, and aromatic candle line. I left the corporate world in January 2017.
In March 2017 we moved to our current location just North of FM 407 and Garden Ridge where we have a small retail space, a beautiful party room, and our unique candle pouring space. Over the course of the past year, we have created thousands of candles, most of which are custom-made for corporations, real estate teams, spas, and boutiques all around the country, additionally, we have hosted many, many unique and fun events in our extraordinary event space.
We also do weddings, meetings, golf tournaments, and events through our company Destinations Unlimited.
Recently, we opened a booth in the Painted Tree Marketplace where we have expanded our retail offerings. It’s been a fun journey, for sure!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Deciding to leave a great corporate position to open our own business has not been easy. My husband, family, and close friends have been so supportive all along the way. From the beginning, there were times that I would ask myself “Self, are you sure you want to do this?” Going into any business for yourself is risky and creates it’s very own challenges – don’t ever kid yourself. My answer is yes and will always be yes.
I have learned to trust my instincts, creativity, and believe in myself. I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit that I couldn’t let sit idle.
At times it can be a lot of hard work and lots of hours, but it’s all worth it. …so here we are!
Finders Keepers Candles – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Finders Keepers offers a healthier alternative for those of us that LOVE candles. As the President and Creative Designer of our brand, I strive to find scents that go wonderfully with each season and we also have our standards that our customers love year round.
You ask what sets us apart. Our candles are made with 100% USA made soy wax that burns virtually soot free. Because we are very particular about what we use for our scents, wicks, and wax, people with scent-sensitivity can enjoy candles again. Our scents do not contain phthalate, parabens, or sulfates, which helps with allergies. We are very aware of the sensitivities of people who suffer from migraines and other health-related conditions and strive to make our products as pure as possible.
Another feature of our candle line is that our embellishments are very unique and the packaging is eco-conscious.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Great question! I think the proudest moment for me is moving from our home-based business that had eventually take over our entire home to creating the space that we are currently leasing. We have created a product that people want and enjoy.
