Meet Franchesca Rodriguez of What-A-Doll Beauty Bar in North Richland Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Franchesca Rodriguez.

Franchesca, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have always loved anything with regards to beauty. From beauty products to put a whole look together. I decided to take makeup seriously and pursue it. I learned a lot of my artistry at the time whenever I worked for MAC Cosmetics. Truly grateful for that experience.

After a couple of years, I had left that to focus more on my family and started working a 9-5 at a school. I found myself not feeling fulfilled and knew my purpose was bigger than that. I started speaking things into existence that I could see myself doing. God started placing people in my life for that.

That’s when Ashley (my business partner now and owner of What-A-Doll Beauty Bar) presented me with an opportunity that changed my life. She is an entrepreneur as well. I shared with her I wanted to open a salon that is a one-stop beauty shop. A client walks in and has the opportunity to get makeup, hair, lashes, etc. A salon where it’s about women empowerment. Women empowering other women. Where we could flourish. A positive environment of boss ass bitches is exactly what I said.

She liked the idea and called me one day to ask if I wanted to be apart of the business. I can do makeup full time and offer other services. That’s where it began for me. It manifested. All praise to the highest.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has its challenges. It’s not made for the weak. I am still learning myself. I am always the student, however, for me, it was and still is the mentality. Transitioning from a 9-5 to becoming an entrepreneur takes a lot of self-discipline and self-discovery. Knowing who you are and finding your purpose. Once you start that journey it’s so rewarding and worth it.

Please tell us about your work.
I specialize in makeup and lashes at the moment. I also just recently started hosting a group at the salon once a month for women. Called Women of Wisdom. It’s a place where we could uplift and inspire one another. Some of my clients attend. We all bring a piece of wisdom to the table. Besides working towards building my clientele and amongst other things I would say that’s one of my biggest accomplishments. I try to provide an experience at the salon where anyone I come into contact with feels good about themselves. All my coworkers have that same mentality and that is what sets us apart. We all believe in uplifting each other and others while being our authentic selves. Our clients can feel our energy. Another accomplishment I will acknowledge is we have been blessed enough to attend beauty schools to speak about our journey as entrepreneurs and it gets real. The feedback we receive, whenever we are finished, is a feeling I cannot even explain. I just know it’s a part of my purpose. It’s one of a kind vibe.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Spending time with my family in Puerto Rico.
