Today we’d like to introduce you to Francis Garner and Melvin Fudge.
Gentlemen, please kick things off for us – how does this story begin?
5306 Studios started while we were attending the University of Texas at San Antonio. Neither of us have been strangers to the event and entertainment industry. Francis has coordinated countless major events for the university and manages several artists throughout Texas and California. Melvin had been doing music as well as photography, videography and graphic design for many years and used his apartment to serve as his studio. The apartment number Melvin lived in was 5306, which is where a good amount of the duo’s collaboration time was spent and how the name of the studio was eventually formed. The studio then went from Melvin’s apartment to Francis’s house in Schertz, TX, the city where Francis still resides and was later moved to its current location in Denton. We have made it this far by taking chances, working hard, and most importantly, working together. Melvin, a Denton native, handles the creative services of the studio, while Francis manages the consulting, marketing, and branding.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The biggest two obstacles we’ve had are building the studio up to our standards without taking out any business loans and sacrificing a normal, comfortable lifestyle in order to take care of the studio first. We took over this particular location from another studio owner, and it wasn’t exactly in the best shape. In a little over a year’s time, we have spent a generous amount of our personal incomes just on remodeling, while still operating and letting clients book sessions. Melvin has done the majority of the remodeling himself, in between work, family, and running sessions at the studio. Francis has been working just as hard to generate clientele and establish important connections, but living in another city has been an obstacle in itself. Just as with any small business, new beginnings can be a tad bit rough, but we are thankful and believe it’s all worth bringing another positive staple to a rapidly-growing community.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the 5306 (Fifty Three Oh Six) Studios story. Tell us more about the business.
5306 Studios is a multimedia and artist development center. We focus on vocal recording, photography, video production, graphic design, consulting, marketing and branding. We pride ourselves on not only being a creative space, but also a one-stop shop for individuals & businesses. In this industry, it is hard to find a location that will give you all the tools to help you reach your full potential, but at 5306 we are just that. All your needs, under one roof.
