Today we’d like to introduce you to Greg and Keri Solomon.
Greg and Keri, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
This particular story starts at the beginning of 2018. I was a single guy at the age of 36. I had just moved back home to the DFW area after a short stint in Sacramento, CA. I had given away nearly everything I owned when I left, so I didn’t have any furniture when I came back to Texas. However, I had a garage full of lumber, a few power tools, and access to a ton of tutorial videos on YouTube. I was in a season of life where I was really seeking Jesus and who he created me to be. Rather than striving to find my identity in something (jobs, titles, etc.), I knew who I was… so I decided to pour my identity into everything I create. I started building my life, one piece at a time. I trusted God to do the rest. And he DID!
Shortly after, I met the love of my life at church. She was everything I had dreamed of and prayed for. She was a newly single mother of three, and a perfect balance of style and grace. We were married in November 2019 and moved into our first home together. We had no idea that our first year of family life would involve being quarantined in a global pandemic, but we embraced it. We built everything from a patio theater section to a backyard chicken coop to farm our own eggs. We decided to make the most of it. And that phrase became a new way of life for us. It empowered us, and through that, empowered everyone who was watching. So we decided to start a business out of it!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
So far, the road has been pretty smooth. We are still in the beginning stages, so we are paying attention to what our customers and clients want and what they need… which is helpful in the world of custom building. We believe there is always a market for quality furniture, but we also understand the weight of the economic pressure from 2020. We’re prepared to adjust. We’re just getting started, guys!
Please tell us about Thrifty Soul.
We are a husband and wife team that builds custom furniture and home decor with a fusion of mid-modern and farm style decoration. This involves the entire creative process of consulting with clients to create a space that is aesthetically pleasing as well as innovative and functional. We also will be creating DIY videos and tutorials to teach and empower you to do what we do. This way, you have options: 1) Do it yourself or 2) Let us do it for you.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
At this point, we are starting over… so we are ready to learn all the lessons. This is our first time working directly with people in the creative/styling process, so we are excited to see what that looks like!
