Meet Imani Carter of Versatile Mani

Today we’d like to introduce you to Imani Carter.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Imani. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
As a young girl aiming to be independent and creative, I would create my own clothes, do my own hair and paint my own nails. Developing many of these abilities/traits from my mother who is a beautiful artistic soul as well as my grandmother who was a passionate cosmetologist, always rocking the flyest hairstyles along with the fiercest outfits. After many years of feeling an unfulfilled passion. I began cosmetology school, I thought I knew 100 percent that hair was going to be my passion and drive but midway through the program, less desire to do hair began to set in and the urge to seek an outlet that allowed me more creative freedom grew stronger. So, I asked myself, what can I do that’s still in the cosmetology field that will pique my interest, creativity as well as keep me driven to never stop aiming for the stars? I got it, nails! If only it were that simple right? With so much support from my family, friends, fellow classmates and instructors, I kept and still continue practicing to perfect my craft. One of my many mentors at Ogle School encouraged me to enter the nationwide Beauty Envision Competition for the nail category. I found a model the same day he presented the opportunity to me and submitted my entry, all in hours. In awe of the competition and their pure art, I felt out of my league. Anxiously waiting, I was Top 10 Semifinalist. One of the best experiences in my life. From that moment on, I felt my passion truly fulfilled.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My journey may have not always been pleasant or easy but this journey is what made me the strong ambitious woman I am today. This is only the beginning, my journey continues.

Versatile Mani – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a woman of many talents, I have branded myself as “Versatile Mani” because I can do Hair, Nails and I like to call myself a Makeup Enthusiast. I specialize and focus on Nails. So, you can call me your new nail tech. Most people ask me “What can’t you do Imani?” My motto is “Be Undeniably Versatile” That’s what I always aim to be.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I don’t feel that true success can be defined by monetary value but by emotional, physical and spiritual health/growth. You can wake up with more money than you can count and still be unhappy and fell that the “success” isn’t worth it. No amounts of money or things can bring you TRUE joy and happiness. Become one with your mind, body, and soul is what I define as true success. Self-love is my goal. I’m looking to spread that one set at a time.
