Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacki Maher.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I became a licensed hairdresser 6 years ago. I did my education at Paul Mitchell Tysons Corner VA. After graduating, I went to manage the salon at ULTA in Fair Oaks (Fairfax VA). I relocated to Plano, TX just a few months after starting to be with my now husband. I worked there for about a year before stepping down and going back to school for my cosmetology educators license. After completing that, I moved into my own salon suite. Over the past few years of booth renting I decided it was time to take the plunge and open up my own salon!
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road. Dreams take hard work and time. Every client I did, every relationship I made, and every dollar I saved was a stepping stone to my success. I was in a lot of debt when I was in school, had no savings and was kind of a loose cannon. I knew what I wanted, but didn’t know how to get there. It took a while to learn how to manage my money, figure out what exactly I wanted and to find the perfect timing and location for the salon.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
The Hair Parlour is a fun, and laid back salon comprised of 4 stylists. What makes us unique is we all come from very different backgrounds, we all did our education at different schools and we come from all walks of life. We specialize in coloring and cutting. We love doing new techniques like balayage, ombres, sombres, color melting, etc… We also are well trained in different haircutting techniques. We love to build relationships with our guests that last a lifetime.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I have many, but I loved the neighborhood I grew up in. My parents would take my brother and I sledding on Reeves hill, we would go watch the fireworks from the neighborhood above us, we went to the pool nearby, and there was a big park close to us where we would walk through to go to 7-11 and get Slurpee. My elementary school, middle school and high school were in walking distance from my house. It was all pretty memorable.

Love this!!! The salon is quaint, friendly, happy vibe, and elegant at the same time. You leave with a smile on your face!!!! Jackie is not my stylist but love her happy vibrant attitude. It is rare when 4 people compliment each other so much. So much laughter and joy spreads to each customer
