Jahta, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Born and raised in Los Angeles County, California I have and will always be known as “Peach” the little chocolate girl always in someone’s hair and love to dance! Lol Hair has always been a passion of mine from the moment I realized it grew out of our scalp! Lol I went from just doing hair for fun to getting paid doing what I love to do! A lot of people ask me how/when did I start braiding hair? When I was a little girl as young as I can remember approximately around six to seven years of age, while watching my aunt’s braid their customers hair I would sit watching them and braid my dolls hair or my cousins hair not knowing I had initiated a skill that would put me on a platform later on in life! Me and my cousins would braid each other hair regularly and before you knew it, I was in love with hair and the creativity behind it even more. By the time I turned 21 I was a Texas resident with no clientele. I began using myself to promote the styles I do and before I knew it, I began to build my clientele in the DFW region. I have steadily maintained my professional braiding career in Texas since 2010 and haven’t looked back. I’ve been blessed to braid over 1000 women heads in the DFW region and counting since 2010. I am a 40 year old 𝑪𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒏𝒊𝒂 𝑷𝒆𝒂𝒄𝒉 stuck in my youth physically and loaded with wisdom thanks to my age and the many lessons dealt.
Has it been a smooth road?
Self-discipline and focus has carried me; you must not remain stagnant or comfortable! I challenge myself with each style I do, perfecting my craft is instilled in my brain so every day I am looking for new styles, new products and ways to grow my business. The road has not always been easy, the initial process of starting my business was very hard, I felt defeated at times and felt like no one would give me a chance but with trusting God and using myself before I knew it I was promoting “Jahta’s Braiding and Natural Hair” all around DFW area. The braiding business is competitive in a sense but it’s very lucrative as well. Networking, marketing and happy clients is how I built my brand, respect and being efficient was the key to my growth!
Please tell us about your company.
My company name is Jahta’s Braiding and Natural Hair. I specialize in Braids, Natural Hair Care and styles, Crochets, Some loc styles, Protective Styles and Natural Products. Natural Hair treatment consist of Shampoo, Condition, Deep condition, Trimmings, Blow outs, up do’s and Twist Outs. I am known for my beautiful neat Box Braids amongst other braid styles Box Braids is the style that put me on the map! Box Braids hit Texas like a nuclear bomb! Lol Everybody wants to try them at least once… I am proud of the fact that I have never gave up on my business or my clients. I travel to customers who are not able to commute, I try my best to accommodate my customer’s needs. I understand my company’s reputation depends on my customers happiness and the business I provide.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Texas accepted me with open arms and I didn’t realize it was as big as it is! I love Texas because the change I needed and set out for I was able to pursue and conquer. Besides this bipolar Texas weather, I absolutely love Texas!
