Meet Jose and Bianca Tavares of Borracho Miche Mix in DeSoto

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jose and Bianca Tavares.

Jose and Bianca, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Jose- I’ve always loved micheladas, I would always order them at restaurants but I never found the right one for my liking. So I started making them for myself of course to my liking at home and at family gatherings. My friends and family encouraged me that they were great, so I decided to try and make them in larger quantities other than by the glass. It took me a few tries but then lucky batch #7 was a hit! I was able to make three gallons per batch. So I started to jar it for friends and family. Then for our friend’s friends, then my wife made our Instagram page, then Facebook page… And after that, the rest is history. We kept growing and growing, sleepless nights with more orders than we could handle then eventually to where we are now. I never would of imagined all the love and support we have!

Bianca- Jose had a creative idea that we ran with, and we both work very hard to push our brand! He enjoyed drinking micheladas and wanted one to his personal liking and it just so happen it was up to everyone else’s liking too!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Jose- Every business has its peaks and valleys and I learned that very quickly. The michelada business is saturated with other great mixes, but you have to learn to stand out for yourself. You have to be your own brand and own it, love it, and respect it. There will always be disbelievers but you have to keep grinding to show yourself that you can do it. The road has been tough from sleepless nights, working two jobs, and having a toddler plus a new baby at the same time when your new business is getting momentum. You have to learn to balance your personal life with your business life. That has to be the hardest thing for me . I love my wife and kids and my wife has been there for me every step of the way, even when we were dead tired trying to fill orders.

Bianca- He’s right…everything he said is true! We have our good days and bad…but nobody ever sees the bad, right? Like the nights we would both stay up to 2 or 3am working to fill orders and then he would have to be at work at 7am. That is not easy. No one sees the struggles of having to tell your toddler “Let’s play tomorrow because Mommy and Daddy are super tired from working” and then tomorrow comes and it’s the same words used again… I honestly don’t think nothing worth having is easy in life, you really have to WORK hard; most times SUPER hard to get to where you want to be but that only makes you appreciate everything you earn so much more. Has it been easy for us? No, because we are both learning how to balance our life around our business.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Borracho Miche Mix story. Tell us more about the business.
Our business consist of an authentic Mexican American Michelada mix. My role in the Borracho Miche Mix company is all of the above, from mixing, jarring, delivering, selling, marketing, inventory, and events. My wife is right there by my side to help me in any way. The thing I’m most proud of as a company is how I was able to start something from the ground up with no money and little to no help and make it into something so well known all around Dallas and now most of Texas. Some of the things that set us apart from other companies is our great fresh, authentic taste. We wanted a well-rounded mix and I think I’ve capitalized on that with the zest, spice, and freshness, to make every sip refreshing.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I believe we didn’t get lucky in this business… God has a plan for everyone, and he has been there for me from the start. He gave me the creative ideas with our striving company, and he continues to bless me with ideas, strength, and to always stay humble. God is good all the time!

Bianca- I remember sitting in church and listening to our Pastor and the whole time I just knew our Pastor was talking to us, it was like the service was meant for me and Jose. I kept tapping Jose on the leg like “are you listening, pay attention, did you hear that”?! Not knowing his mind was already creating ideas about Borracho! We tell everyone “God has blessed us” we know it’s not luck it’s him being the center of our home, our family and our business. We keep faith and know he’s with us every step of the way.
