Today we’d like to introduce you to Judy Gaman.
Judy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
In 2005, our founders, Drs. Mark Anderson and Walter Gaman, were ready to give up on medicine and pursue different careers. They loved treating patients and making a difference, but the HMO world was nothing more than a treadmill that left the doctors exhausted and the patients frustrated.
Executive Medicine of Texas was a napkin idea over Saturday breakfast. It all started as a response to the question, “If you could run your practice any way you wanted without having to fight with insurance companies, what would it look like?” The simple answer came from Dr. Anderson, “I want to treat my patients like I would my own family members, never in a rush and everything considered.”
Both Dr. Gaman and Dr. Anderson set out to create the most comprehensive, preventative and proactive practice they could imagine. Now with patients local and flying in from all over the globe, they have achieved just that.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The traditional way patients find doctors is by looking through their plan and finding one that is close to their office or their home. Little thought usually goes into picking a primary physician. Ironically, people should be the pickiest about their primary care doctor. After all, that person will be the gate-keeper to their health.
Early on, it was a challenge to change the mid-set of the general public from convenience to quality of care and experience. We were fortunate that our patients saw the difference almost immediately and helped us grow the practice through their referrals.
