We’d like to introduce you to singer/songwriter K.Avett.
Let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I grew up with a heavy gospel influence and had minimal exposure to other genres until my teenage years. As a minister’s kid, I can recall countless instances of sneaking and listening to “blues,” a term my parents used to describe any music other than gospel. It was during this time that my musical influences began to broaden, shaping the sound that you hear today. Ironically, though, I can never stray too far from my gospel roots and it is evident in both my debut and sophomore albums, Revelations and Lioness, respectively.
Whether one describes me as “sultry,” “jazzy,” or a combination of the two with a dash of Neo Soul and R&B, my goal is to connect with my audience. Cultivating a strategic social media presence has allowed me to maximize my exposure and share my artistry via a weekly show called ‘The Music Box.’ In addition, under the K.Avett Music Group brand, I have released a variety of ‘multi-person’ performances that have generated a lot of great feedback and led to bookings for live events. The K.Avett brand is all about positivity, authenticity and guiding your purpose with intentional living.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like many artists, I have had my share of challenges. Without the financial backing of a label, it has been a learning curve for my team and me to strategically market and promote my albums. Ultimately, however, my journey has been filled with some unforgettable experiences for which I am grateful. To name a few: Opening for international artist Corrine Bailey Rae and performing in Canada, creating two full projects as an independent artist with the second album charting on Billboard for eight consecutive weeks and having music selected for film placements. Running parallel to my love of music is my career as a practicing General Surgery/Telemetry Registered Nurse. Finding a balance between two passions that fuel me has been challenging, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I am proof that tenacity paired with a resolute & determined team can yield amazing results.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about K.Avett Music Group – what should we know?
K.Avett Music Group, LLC. was established in 2014. The benefits of releasing music under my own label were too compelling to ignore. Most notably, the ability to have and retain exclusive artistic control in every area convinced me that this was the best move for me. Since then, our company has expanded to include live music entertainment for both private, festival and corporate events. We also provide photography, videography, editing, and social media consulting services. After being active for five years, I am most proud of the unfailing commitment of K.Avett Music Group to provide stellar services and to conduct our business with the utmost integrity.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
A wise person said, “Grit is equal parts passion and perseverance. It’s that little speck of sand in the oyster that turns into a pearl.” I am convinced that pertinacity has played a pivotal role in my success, to date. And it is that same drive that I intend to continue using to fuel my journey moving forward.
