Meet Kamal Kapadia of The Soirée Girl in Carrollton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kamal Kapadia.

Kamal, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My story starts with some life-changing news. Finding out I had breast cancer rewrote my entire story. I was a successful career woman with a Master’s Degree in Accounting when I had to complete a year-long treatment to battle my fast-growing cancer. I had to make many changes to my lifestyle and outlook on life. I survived. Then, I went back to my career and resumed my old life. However, it wasn’t until having a recurrence of breast cancer that I began to wonder why I wasn’t doing what made me happiest in life?

After another ten months of treatment – I was in a similar position again. Alive. Surviving. Contemplating. What do with I want to do with my life? It became so clear to me. I had been hosting and planning events for family and friends for as long as I could remember. I had been told so many times before that I was born to do this and I just took the compliment and went on my way. But the truth was – it made me feel great! And so the ideas began and I told myself that I’d already had a pretty risky life, what’s one more risk when it could bring so much joy to my life, especially after so much trauma, and thus The Soirée Girl was born!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s been a roller coaster starting this business – in the best possible way! It’s changed so much in the six months since it’s inception from event planning and design to newly added rental services and my most popular item – picnics & proposals and I’m enjoying every minute of it! Covid-19 has put a damper on my business, similar to so many others. However, the picnics have been so successful because of the social distance aspect and the contactless service that’s provided.

We’d love to hear more about Soirée Girl.
What sets The Soirée Girl girl apart is the custom, unique, and modern ideas that I help to cultivate with my clients. Seeing the vision that we create elevated into a Soirée brings joy to them and myself, as well. This is the story of a girl who survived cancer twice and made her own dream a reality!

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck… I guess you could say getting cancer is bad luck… getting it twice – really bad luck. But I choose not to look at it that way. To me – good and bad things happen to everyone and it’s how you deal with it that shows you who you are and who you’re meant to be. Cancer happened, I survived and now I have a whole new positive outlook on life. Sometimes things like this have to happen to make you into who you were always meant to be.
