Meet Kara Whitcomb of Select Residential Brokerage in Flower Mound

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kara Whitcomb.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Kara. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I grew up dancing competitively until I blew out my knee about a decade into my dance career. It was devastating. I dreamed of dancing professionally my entire life and when my knee injury ended my dance career, I didn’t even know where to go next. After years of physical rehabilitation, I realized that I had a passion for helping people become healthier, happier, and more inspired to feel great. My dance career had ingrained in me the importance of health and discipline. I went to college at the University of North Texas for a degree to work in corporate wellness. I was on fire to help improve the health and well-being of people anywhere I could. I worked my way up to my dream job as a Corporate Consultant in a Dallas-based wellness enterprise. In my wellness career, I helped thousands of employees all over the world live healthier, happier lives.

At that time in my career, I was working 60-80 hours a week, hustling to chase down my dreams as fast as I could. When I finally “arrived” at my dream job in my mid-twenties, I knew I had to make a move and work toward a new passion. I took a leap of faith, left my wellness career and moved into a sales role as a Real Estate Agent working for my family’s residential real estate brokerage, Select Residential Brokerage. To be clear, when I say “leap of faith”, I’m saying that I left an amazing salaried job to go to a commission-only position selling homes. I had NO sales training or sales history and just took the job in sales banking on faith and the leadership and expertise my parents offered to move me into success in real estate. It was the best decision of my life, hands down.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My real estate career has had its ups and downs. I came into real estate in a relatively slow market. My parents had spent the last decade successfully building their business off of relationships and referrals, so myself coming into the business with neither many relationships nor referrals, was a challenging start. They had achieved huge success over the years without any marketing, social media presence, or online advertising. I was coming into the business needing all of those resources and more, in order to just put food on my table. I can actually recall two specific times at the beginning of my real estate career where I was just days away from not being able to pay my mortgage on time. While my parents continued to build their strategic relationships and partnerships, I began developing from the ground up our online presence, marketing strategy, branding, and lead generation platforms. I spent years and tireless hours spending money going after dead leads and working ineffective processes before I finally nailed down the recipe. I am proud to be able to say that I have spent a great deal of time solidifying the top marketing strategies in the industry. From our second to none lead generation platform to our proprietary social media presence and client communication, I am proud to represent my company’s brand and presence in the community. I have built the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex’s leading real estate Instagram page @selectres_dfwtxrealtor that has nearly 40,000 followers and quite frankly, is probably the most supportive community out there!! I am so honored to have the support of our followers on our Instagram page. This has been an integral part of building our presence in the industry, community, and as a local leader in real estate social media influence.

Select Residential Brokerage – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Our most exciting news to share with you is that we are officially announcing that we are now recruiting a team of elite Agents. Currently, we are a family-owned and operated residential real estate brokerage, but we are so excited to announce that we are expanding the team! We are looking for Real Estate Agents who are ready to take their real estate career to the next level. We understand how real estate success can feel unachievable at times. We have a combined 50+ years of sales and leadership experience, designing creative and innovative solutions, strategic plans, and marketing platforms to adapt to market conditions and make our clients’ vision a reality. We bring the knowledge and experience to create a tailor-made business plan for each agent and provide the support, direction, and continuous coaching to execute that plan, and teach our agents all of the intricacies of real estate needed to be successful. This includes negotiation skills, market analysis, presentation, client communication, time management, and making our clients’ dreams come true, while still maintaining a work-life balance. Our future Real Estate Agents will achieve the real estate career they’ve always seen themselves having while realizing the vision of our Buyers and Sellers.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Watching what I have built from scratch makes me proud and energizes me every single day. I am such a strong believer in the theory that every single human being was made for a purpose. Every person should have the privilege of waking up each day and have the ability and resources to pursue their true purpose and dreams in life. I have been so incredibly blessed with some of the most outstanding leaders, guides, and partners in my career that have played an instrumental role in bringing me to this point that I am currently at today.
