Meet Kevin Tillett of Creative Minded Clothing/Creative Minds Media Group in Addison

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Tillett.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Kevin. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born in Chicago, Illinois, raised in a single-parent household. At the age of 21, I left for the US Army and then became an Army medic and orthopedic technician. After 22 1/2 years of service, I retired in 2014. I decided to relocate to Dallas to pursue the medical field, but I then came to the realization, I just wanted to pursue my passion for acting.

I have currently been residing in the Dallas metroplex for five years, during that time I have founded Creative Minds Media Group, a multimedia and film group, veteran-owned and women driven production company(CMMG); Creative Minds Arts Foundation and Creative Minded Clothing.

During my journey of honing my craft as an actor, I have seen n interview Issa Rae (of Insecure), speaking on reaching across instead of always reaching up for help; a collaboration with fellow creatives. She also made a resounding point that resonated with me that “if it’s not available to you, create it,” which led me to the establishment of CMMG.

I’ve also had a passion for the mentor and give back to the youth of color, especially our young men of color. I decided to give them the opportunities that I never had as a child, so I established the Creative Minds Arts Foundation to harness youth of color creativity and harness all that they have in them along with enhancing that along with life skills.

With the understanding, that marketing is huge in any business venture, I decide to utilize t-shirts to brand and market my mantra, KNOW YOU BE YOU DO YOU and my logo and eventually I designed my shoes which also carried the mantra and positive quotes in the tongue of the shoe, which birth Creative Minded Clothing.

God, Positivity, gratitude, energy, frequency and vibration are all essential to me and every endeavor that I seek to begin. I live by these quotes: If you don’t go, you will never know”. “My four C’s, In any relationship, whether business, romantic or platonic, Communication, Character, Chemistry and Consistency, surpasses all your skill sets.” “Decide Commit Act Succeed”.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
By no means at all was road smooth! But perseverance is everything. I grew up on the south side of Chicago and two major deployments while in the Army. The biggest struggles were truly the inner fight with the voices in my head and not receiving those naysayers’ negativity. POSITIVITY ALWAYS!

Please tell us about your business.
I am an actor, director, producer, business owner, but overall I’d like to say I am a multidisciplinary visionary. Creative Minds Media Group is a veteran-owned, women-driven film and media production company. We specialize in commercial video marketing, demo-reel creation, headshots, film and media projects.

Creative Minded Clothing is a clothing line developed by creatives for creatives to express themselves fully with no concern or cares.

To tell you the truth, simply developing these are what I am most proud of. When you come from a city and environment that you are NOT expected to make it doing much of anything much less survive, bringing these passions out of my spirit to fruition is everything! “Decide Commit Act Succeed”.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
One of the biggest lessons that I’ve learned is the collaboration process. I pride myself on being very good at reading people, but now this experience has sharped that skill even more: “If you don’t know, you don’t know.” Now being able to assess them more at a spiritual level rather than just a physical and skill level. Who are you? Who are they? KNOW YOU BE YOU DO YOU.
