Kylenn, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Hello, I’m also known as KylennJ Hair. I am a 21-year-old hairstylist and have been an entrepreneur since I was 16 years old working out of my grandparent’s backroom that I made into my salon suite. I became seriously interested in hair when one day I was over my grandparent’s house and I found my mom’s old short haired mannequin head and I started curling the hair with my fingers and water. At that moment, I realized the love I had for doing hair and making people feel beautiful.
When I was in high school, I played sports and I carried a long hair or bob mannequin around school every day. I was always challenging myself to try different cuts and styles. I was honored to be recognized by Desoto ISD for being the 1st student and male to complete the Cosmetology program at Desoto High School. From then on I made it my duty to continue to be a trailblazer for myself and others who would loves this beauty industry. I make it a point to go back to Desoto High to motivate and educate on the newest trends and styles.
After receiving my license, I started working at my family salon called Eccentric Elegance Studio. As you can see, doing hair has always been in my DNA. My mom (Eccentrically Mavel) brought my oldest sister (Kre’Styles) and myself with her to the salon daily. We were called the shop babies. So, I continued to go to the salon and watch my mother, other stylists and practiced on my mannequin there or at home. I must say, I am where I am because of God, my loving mentors, and my praying strong family.
Has it been a smooth road?
Yes, it has been a smooth road. I have been fortunate enough to have great mentors who has my best interest at heart. A mother who have had a salon since I was born. So I was destined to be The Greatest Of All Times.
What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I do healthy silk presses, traditional sew-ins, closures, frontals, lemonade braids, feed-in braids, cut, and color. I specialize in healthy hair and closures. They call me the fastest King of Sew-Ins. I have acquired a special technique that I have used for so long, it doesn’t take me long to enhance beautiful hair. What sets me apart from the rest is that I pride myself to never give up or give in.
