Meet L. Shonny DeBouse-Young of Mona’s Heart Outreach in Mansfield

Today we’d like to introduce you to L. Shonny DeBouse-Young.

Mona’s Heart Outreach, started serving Tarrant and Dallas County residents October 1, 2010 in loving memory of Minister LaMona J. Wills. Her heart was as big as Texas and she made it her mission to help anyone that she could. Today her legacy, love, and service continue through Mona’s Heart Outreach, Inc. that was co-founded by her only sister, Angela Pitcher and niece Minister Shonny DeBouse-Young.

Their mission is to provide assistance, resources, and relief to those who are affected by homelessness, domestic violence, and medical illness in the DFW Metroplex.

They also offer support services and resources to veterans, senior citizens, and those who have experienced displacement through financial hardships. If they can’t help, it is their goal to help locate resources.

At Mona’s Heart Outreach everything they do is done from a sincere place of compassion and love and with the intention of helping others to improve their quality of life. They are an IRS recognized 501c3 Nonprofit.

Has it been a smooth road?
There had been a few bumps in the road. The main obstacle is not having enough supplies or donations to help the homeless and veterans during the winter months.

So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Mona’s Heart Outreach story. Tell us more about the business.
Mona’s Heart Outreach specializes in distress aid and care management for the less fortunate, homeless, veterans, & seniors in the DFW community. We are known for providing coats, gloves, socks, hats, toiletries, and “cups of hope”. Every year we give out thousands of cups of hot cocoa to the homeless through donations. We have helped furnish apartments, paid for hotel stays, meals, clothing, gas, beauty services, & we volunteer/partner with other organizations to make larger impacts.

The thing that sets us apart is that we don’t do it for self-gratification or recognition, we serve out of love and the duty to help others. If donations are low we dig into our own personal resources to make sure we help those in need.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
It is my hope that the National and city governments will allocate more funds to help with the homeless veteran and senior crisis. The need is steadily increasing. Many veteran’s seniors can’t survive off of the fixed monthly income. I would like to see more collaborations and an influx of corporate sponsors for hands on organizations like Mona’s Heart Outreach.
