Meet Laura Lomonaco

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Lomonaco.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Laura. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
I have been in the industry for 14 years now. I majored in Musical Theatre in college which lead to taking a few Stage Makeup courses. That’s where I truly discovered my passion for makeup. Creating characters and conveying an array of emotions through makeup was so magical to me and makeup quickly became my focus. Soon after, I was hired for my first makeup retail job. I fell in love with the connections we get to make with people as makeup artists. We are very similar to hairstylists in the way that we can become your best friend or therapist of sorts. I love that kind of human connection.

I am very passionate about fostering relationships with my clients and creating unique looks with them in mind. It is very important to me that I am not stamping the same look on every client. I want to get to know them, their style and vision, and create something unique that they will love. When someone loves their makeup, and they feel confident and beautiful, that is the best part of my job. I have been very lucky in my career to have had some wonderful professional experiences.

From being a part of a bride’s big day to doing makeup for music videos. One of my absolute favorites was being a part of the makeup team for Lady Gaga’s 2017 Super Bowl Half Time Show. It was such an amazing and career changing experience getting to be a part of such a talented team of artists. I look forward to many more creative adventures in the future!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Being an artist of any kind is never a smooth road! I have been lucky to have had some amazing opportunities, but it comes with years of hard work and determination. There is a quote that says, “Do what you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life.” I would say, “Do what you love and you will work harder than ever.”

When your work is a craft, you are never done learning and growing especially in a field where trends are constantly changing. I have no doubt had some very humbling moments in my career but those only lead to personal and professional growth. I believe in being a constant student and continuing to fine tune my craft.

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I am a makeup artist that specializes in all aspects of makeup. I love making brides feel their most beautiful on their wedding day, creating editorial looks for photo shoots and also painting dancers and actors for stage performances.

I would say I am known for my creative makeup looks. I love Halloween and getting to create character transformations. I do a lot on myself for fun that I post on my Instagram, but I am my worst and pickiest client!

I would say what sets me apart is my ability to listen to what my client wants and create something that they will love whether it be a soft glam, a dramatic look or a full character transformation. I am well versed in many styles of makeup, and I am always learning.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Honestly, I wouldn’t change a thing. I have learned from all of my past mistakes. Though growing pains hurt, they are just that, growth.
