Today we’d like to introduce you to Leesy Palmer.
Leesy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started Classic Auto Title after working with a car restorer who didn’t have a title to their vehicle, which had been sitting in a barn for years. The vehicle was sold to be restored, but no one knew where the title was. From that one encounter, I created a company that serves a small, specialized community in Texas – antique car restorers – and helps them to obtain legal documentation to title their vehicle in their name.
These folks are extremely passionate about their vehicles – their project, their pride and joy. Often, they have owned these vehicles for years, always planning to restore them, but never having enough time. And, when they finally have the time and resources to restore these old vehicles, they realize that the title was lost and there is no record. Sometimes these are cars that have been passed on from a family member and have a very long history within their family. But, without proper paperwork, these cars are headed for the scrap pile. I help them to save these pieces of history, by helping them receive ownership documentation in their names. It’s exciting to be a party of something so special in their lives.
Has it been a smooth road?
The road has not always been smooth. Starting out, I had to make a name for myself as a woman in a, primarily, man dominated industry. I started the company in 2012, and over the past five years, have become sought after as a speaker for antique car clubs and attend events throughout the year where these guys come to collect parts for their vehicles and need advice about how to obtain ownership with a legal title.
So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Classic Auto Title story. Tell us more about the business.
I specialize in helping car restorers solve a huge problem. Often, these folks have been trying to fix this problem on their own or have been paralyzed with fear about how to fix this for years. I help them to painlessly move forward so that they can enjoy their prized possession.
I’m most proud of the response I receive from the folks I help. They are truly relieved, overjoyed, and can’t wait to tell their car friends, who often have a similar problem and need my help.
My level of customer service sets me apart from my competitors. I get the job done right the first time and keep the customer informed every step of the way. My business cell phone is always with me, and I’m answering questions and helping explain steps in the process pretty much 24-7. I’m efficient and extremely professional. The number of referrals and repeat customers is my pride and joy.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The State of Texas is constantly changing the rules on us for titling these vehicles. So, I stay on top of those changes so that I can better assist my customers in getting their titles. Each of these vehicles is a part of history… no one is manufacturing more of them. It’s our job to preserve them for future generations to enjoy.
The State will continue to throw curve balls, but we’ll continue to act in our customer’s best interests to get these vehicles back on the road.
