Meet Elijah Hawken of Light the Phoenix Life Coaching in Central

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elijah Hawken.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
An old friend recently remarked, “You’ve always been a healer – way before any school or certifications,” and this is true. My voyage began as a young adult when I discovered I had the ability to perform intuitive energetic healing. I knew it sounded crazy, so I only offered it to my closest friends. Through this practice I was led to become a Reiki Healer, and over the following years moved forward into becoming a Reiki Master/Teacher. Continuing my path as a healer, I had an epiphany that my next step was to become an acupuncturist, so I completed a four-year graduate program at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in San Diego, through which I received, in 2004, my Masters of Science in Traditional Oriental Medicine. As an aside, because of the rigorous nature of this training and its focus on integrating biomedicine into the program, graduates are given the distinction of being Primary Care Physicians in California. In early 2005 I opened my Dallas acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine practice. I have never stopped studying and learning, and through my years of clinical practice I realized that many of my patients – even those with the best intentions – were often unable to make beneficial lifestyle changes. I wanted to be able to offer them a solution, so after twelve years as an acupuncturist, I embarked on eighteen months of training to become a Certified Life Coach (through an International Coach Federation accredited program), and subsequently added Life Coaching to my repertoire. The deep soul searching I had done in my Coaching training, along with my committed meditation practice, led me back to a practice that I had begun decades before – the practice of Shamanic Journeying. I view Shamanic practice as just one more form of healing – one with its own unique theory of dis-ease and wellness. In mid-2016, I decided to embark on something I had wanted to do since the mid-1990s – to study under a Shamanic Practitioner. Soon after, I began intensive training under not one, but two Shamanic Practitioners – my teacher, and my teacher’s teacher. I have now added Shamanic Healing to my offerings. I continue to dedicatedly study and further my knowledge and experience in all fields in which I practice. It may seem diverse, but as my dear friend asserted, beyond everything else, I am a Healer.

Has it been a smooth road?
Because I have always followed my intuition, my direction has been clear, but the doing – years of rigorous training, trials, self-doubt, and the sometimes overwhelming day-to-day of running a business in addition to being a Practitioner/Healer – has not been without challenges. Feeling like there were no mentors available- no one who could help show me the ropes of business – was one large hurdle.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Light the Phoenix Life Coaching story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a Healer. I am a Licensed Acupuncturist, a Nationally Board Certified Herbalist, a Certified Life Coach, a Reiki Master/Teacher, and a Shamanic Practitioner. I am most proud of my dedication to seeking out diverse ways I can meet the needs of my patients and clients. I cherish the connection I have with them, and it is an honor to be able to serve them, and help them powerfully step into lives of wellness, health, and authenticity.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
There has been a shift in Western thinking over the past few decades. We are beginning to step away from “The Doctor will fix me” attitude. We are starting to take responsibility for our own wellness. It’s a very powerful time, because with attention to our mental and spiritual wellness – in addition to physical wellness practices – people are poised to live and to age in a beautiful way. I am honored to be a part of spearheading this process.
