Meet Maggie Hargrave of MaggShots Photography in Lewisville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maggie Hargrave.

Maggie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My company, MaggShots Photography started in 2008 when I was in high school, so I had lots of friends who were graduating high school at the time and needed senior portraits. Well, at that time, I had only played with my camera for fun, I did little photoshoots with my friends, and took my camera to all the events I went to, but my friends said I was really good and had a talent in photography, so I went with it.

About 9 years later, as a wedding and portrait photographer, I love capturing my client’s milestones in life and look forward to documenting new love stories. I started my business at a young age, while still in high school, and with all the countless ups and downs life has given me, photography seems to be one of the few things that have kept me grounded. Not only do I have the desire to capture the world as I travel, I have an innate need to learn and to constantly educate myself. Photography allows me to capture those spontaneous, temporarily beautiful moments that could become a permanent moment for life. Having been a photographer for almost a decade, I’ve been able to build my business and help other build theirs too. I enjoy traveling like I mentioned before, my Labrador puppy, lattes, and my wonderful husband of 3 years.

Has it been a smooth road?
If I told you it’s been a smooth road, I’d be lying. Haha. There have been many struggles and things I’ve had to deal with and figure out on my own. Having not had a business before and starting from scratch, I’ve had to reach out to others and the internet for my endless amount of questions. But, looking back at everything, I feel as though I’ve made the best of it and without having struggles, the ride probably would have been much more boring.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with MaggShots Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My company, MaggShots Photography began in 2008 and as of today, I’ve photographed more than 100 weddings and a countless number of portrait sessions, from proposals, engagements, & bridals, to family & senior portraits. I specialize in weddings of course, but also photograph many portrait sessions throughout the year.

I’m most proud of where I’ve come from and where I am today. From starting my business in my teens, graduating with a business degree, hiring my sister-in-law as my social media, office manager, and assistant, to growing my business to where it is today is so so SO rewarding. I think what sets me apart from my peer photographers is my love for many things: my faith, marriage, travel, and also providing a boutique wedding experience with my company. My style attracts those who love intimate, timeless images – bring fun, loving color and nature, and most importantly, being in love.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love that DFW city is big enough for many other photographers to have weddings on the books all year, without having to fight for other weddings. I love that our community is so willing to help others and is always doing something together – whether it be networking or going to a cool, new restaurant, because Dallas has some of the best food, and so much of it. In other areas (even in TX), it’s not as friendly and it’s more of a “dog eat dog” type of atmosphere and culture in the wedding industry. Probably due to there not being as many weddings in that particular area, but I’m glad ours is the way it is because I like to be friends with everyone.

I don’t have many dislikes about our city at all, I just wish sometimes that construction would be finished everywhere so I could get to places more quickly. But is what ever going to happen? Probably not – darn!

Pricing:

  • My average wedding client spends about $3600
  • The average portrait session is $350
