Today we’d like to introduce you to Makayla Ervin.
Makayla, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have always had an entrepreneurial brain, even as a young kid.
Becoming a mom and stay home with my babies really helped bring that part of myself back to life again. I never planned to be a Stay At Home Mom, I like working too much; but I couldn’t imagine spending my days anywhere else. Thus, our brand began.
I dabbled in several creative businesses before I found my true calling. I was so blessed by the freedom and fulfillment I found from channeling my gifts into a means of income for my family. I was determined to use my passion to educate and inspire other moms to do the same.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Oh gosh. Smooth is the last thing I would use to describe our journey. There have been battles with discouragement and intimidation in the industry. We have heard every negative phrase in the book, in regards to our lifestyle choices. Financial investment was not something we could do at the beginning so we had to learn how to do everything ourselves. Balancing family and business is especially a struggle.
However, this is the most worthwhile endeavor I have ever embarked upon. I know what putting in the hard work now, will mean for my family in the years to come and that makes every bit of difference to me. It makes everything worth it.
Please tell us about The Ervin’s – Fulfilled Home.
Our business is focused on inspiring other families to step out of their comfort zone and find creative ways to not only make an income on their own terms but make a life out of it. Our multifaceted brand offers consulting online education, and branding services for moms interested in making a living from their home using their gifts and talents.
I also host a Podcast Show – The Calloway Project, that highlights different areas of starting a home business as a mom and sheds light on how to do it right (found on iTunes or at www.wearetheervins.com/listen). I’m getting ready to launch my first course on business planning for moms who might not have a clue what they want to do with their business in the future. I facilitate a supporting society for mom-bosses that are looking for community and education.
I coach clients one on one through struggles they’re experiencing in building their specific business. My husband and I provide branding photography and videography to help moms capture their businesses image and make a connection with potential clients or customers. We do a whole lot but it’s all focused on getting moms to step out of their comfort zone and own their gifts to lead a more fulfilled life. for themselves and their families.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
It would probably have to be (and this cracks me up every time I think of it) selling my Halloween candy to the neighborhood kids for nickels and dimes. Seriously, I liked candy but I liked making money even more. I don’t remember how it happened but I just remember being known throughout our apartment complex as the candy girl. Kids would knock on my front door and my mom would send them up to my room. I told you I started young!
