Today we’d like to introduce you to Maureen Celestine.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was raised in a family of six in Nigeria and began cooking at the age of twelve. Mom and Dad were my first teachers. My late father was a professional chef to a French ambassador, and my lovely mother made sure my sisters and I were always present while she cooked. We were like her cleaning crew. We would run around the kitchen, grabbing whatever she wanted, clean up all the mess, and set the table before we ate. Like every other eight or ten years old, we grumbled and frowned every time. Mom would simply smile and hit you with the “you girls will thank me later.” Boy, was she right! My parents didn’t completely inspire my love for intercontinental dishes. As I’ve traveled and lived in different parts of the world, a piece of each country has remained in my heart.
I’d host get together ever so often, and friends would always inquire about my recipes, and sometimes make requests I cater for their next gathering.
I’d share recipes on my personal Instagram page and talk about all things food until a friend of mine suggested I take “this passion” of mine seriously and start blogging about it. I guess the rest is history.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wish! It hasn’t been a smooth journey; there is always the obstacle of finance. There are a ton of things I want to do to better my blog, my socials, and everything else relating to my brand.
Another challenge is fear and trying to balance family and work. At times it takes a toll on me not having to give 100% of myself to my family because I am working 24/7 to better my brand.
I almost called it quit last year. I am the executor, photographer, partial tester, designer and errand girl for all things Worldlytreat. I felt overwhelmed that I am putting in all this work, yet it felt like I was frozen in time. It wasn’t until I started getting reviews from strangers via DM, email and, of course, comments that I felt proud of myself for the little I’ve done.
The cyberspace is strange, you don’t physically see your audience so when those feedbacks come pouring in, you look back and give yourself a guilt-free tap on the back that you are in fact doing something right.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Where do I start? I have a lot of favorite childhood memories. One that stands profound is my family’s weekend rituals where we harvest fresh greens from the garden and prepare dinner as a family. We split the chores amongst ourselves whereby two siblings stay in the kitchen with mom to help out with cooking, whereas the other two clean the house while listening to some classic records from dads library. We bless our food and thank God for providing us with abundance produce. After dinner, we do the circle dance to see who’s got the best moves.
