Meet Mayeda Maxon of ShopSmall in Burleson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mayeda Maxon.

Mayeda, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Wow! What a journey this has been. Never would I have thought 2 years ago, when I began hosting small business events while being a stay at home mom to our now 4 year old son that we would have created something to help small businesses get noticed and for everyone to rise above corporate and franchise companies.

I was raised by entrepreneurs my entire life. Growing up, I was able to see the highs and lows of what it actually takes to own your own business.

As entrepreneurs now ourselves, we also saw struggles of owning your own business. Small businesses spend on average 46% on marketing/advertising. Unless, you’re willing to spend thousands a month, no one will know who and where you are. With over 30 million small business owners in the United States alone, 8 out of 10 of those businesses will fail within the first 18 months. Those are our neighbors, our friends, our family, even stay at home moms trying to bring in a second income while working from home. This just isn’t right. So, my husband, Nathan Maxon and I, decided to do something about it. That’s when we created our ShopSmall App.

Please tell us about ShopSmall.
Our ShopSmall App is a one stop shop where you can find any small-locally owned business in any area. All you have to do is type in your zip code or turn on your location and everyone in that area will appear on the app.

Our app ONLY features small/locally owned businesses. NO corporate or franchise companies. We are changing the way the world shops every day by choosing to shop small first to help keep our friends and family in business. We are so blessed God led us down this road and we are so excited for this journey!

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Honestly, I am so happy that we jumped into this quickly. Yes, of course we are learning things along the way but I couldn’t wait to get this created and out there, into the world for everyone to start using. Our hopes are to change the small business statistics and we believe our app will help with doing just that.
