Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Martinez.
Michelle, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Started with a love of photography when I was about ten years old. From there, it just grew and expanded to videography and film. My parents wanted me to study something safe in college-which I started out doing. Completing my Associate’s degree in business and went out looking for my 9-5 job.
I noticed that I became more and more miserable in trying to live what my parents wanted me to do. I finally got the courage to study what I truly want to do in life which is film and photography. Now, almost done with my Bachelors in Communication and Technology with a focus on digital production, I make myself do side projects and grow my skills.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Most definitely not! I feel that I am so late to the game, started off trying to please my parents and do what they wanted me to do career-wise. Not having the courage to stand up for myself and most thing that I struggle with every day, even today- is believing in myself. I’ll tell myself that I am not good enough and never will be, I get too shy and scared to share my work to even promote myself. So it’s a struggle every day for me.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the m-photomusic story. Tell us more about the business.
M-Photomusic is photography and videography. I capture and tell people’s story. I believe each story is unique-although cliche, but it’s very true. Even if it’s something that I don’t know much about or passionate about what I’m shooting, I give my 100% when producing the project. From shooting clothing videos to making a commercial for a car shop, I always get excited to be a part of it all.
When it comes to my photography, I’m more of ‘in the moment.’ I try my best to stay away from staged poses. Which is what I get complimented the most on, and what I’m most proud of that what I shoot really did happen, and all I did was snap the image and capture the moment.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck… I used to believe that is all you needed to be successful. As life has it, luck is far from success. Success and how I got to where I am now, is solely based on how hard I worked.
