Today we’d like to introduce you to Millicent Finney.
Millicent, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
People would always tell me that I was very creative and I had a passion for unique event experiences! My corporate background gave me a foundation to handle logistics, contracts, event management and the fluidity to work with people from diverse backgrounds.
I relocated to Dallas from Atlanta, GA and was prepared to stay on my career path. But God definitely had other plans. As I was getting adjusted to Dallas, I ran into a dear friend from my hometown of Chesapeake, VA in North Park Mall. She had recently moved to Dallas and was planning wedding. I offered to began assisting her with looking for jewelry, shoes and other wedding items. An opportunity became available after a last-minute change with the wedding planner and I was able to plan the wedding.
Of course, from the very beginning until now, it has been filled with some very high once in a lifetime moments and some learning moments. I feel as though the ability to listen more than talking and having an open mind and perspective for feedback and debriefing have been key to the continued growth in business. As well as being consistent in our service delivery.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
As I shared earlier, there have been some very amazing events but there have definitely been some obstacles/challenges along the way.
Some of the challenges have been wanting to give up and then realizing that was not an option.
Establishing realistic expectations with budgets.
Saying “No” when it is not a good fit and the impact of saying yes when you should have said no.

Millicent Finney & Associates is a boutique event planning company that provides customized event packages. We also provide branded products, specialty gift items to compliment your event or they can be purchased separately.
We love creating unique and engaging experiences for our clients and their guests.
What we are most proud of as a company is our ability to service our clients and families through many of life’s major moments from single-digit birthday parties, sweet 16, graduations, weddings, and so much more.
We hope that what sets us apart is our love and passion for people! Our creativity, consistency, ability to meet and exceed expectations, high level of customer service as well as our sensitivity to confidentiality.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Wow, this is a challenge as I believe we go through what we go through because it makes us who we are. It becomes a part of our journey and the lessons learned should be used to help someone else.
I would have embraced the challenges as teachable moments sooner as I later learned they were preparing me for larger opportunities vs thinking they were setbacks.
