Today we’d like to introduce you to Mindy Maass.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Mindy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I had a powerlifting injury when I was 18 the resulted in multiple back surgeries, hip surgeries, and tailbone removal so I was on disability in 2016 they finally fixed my back so that I was able to slowly go back to work so I started designing custom hand stamped jewelry on my kitchen table. I was selling about 10-15 pieces a week. We decided to buy a tiny she shed off the side of the road so I could make my jewelry in there instead of hammering in the house. We also set it up so people could look at the other jewelry while they were picking up something they got on Facebook!
I am plus size one day a lady came in and said I sure wish you had some plus size dresses I could look at! So I googled how many women are plus in Texas! It was 62%, so I looked at the local boutiques at the time and very few of them had anything over the size of xl !! I found some wholesalers and bought eight-plus dresses posted them on my personal Facebook and sold out in an hour and I made more on the eight dresses than on all the jewelry I made in a week !! Miss Mindy’s Boutique was born! We started the entire business with 300$ and within two years, we were doing over seven figures. My husband was super supportive and believed in me even let me use our last dollar to get new inventory while we were growing, not knowing how or when we would see the return!
The way we grew so quickly was doing fun live sales on Facebook! One night we were live we had 50 viewers than all the sudden 800 viewers! At the time, it was only me and one employee that worked 8 hrs a week! We worked four days straight 18 hrs a day to get all of the packages shipped. I had to google how to do bulk shipping. I pretty much learned how to do everything from YouTube & google in the beginning!
Soon after, I joined the boutique hub and was a speaker at their summit in Atlanta & met commentsold owners Brandon & Amanda kruse and then the business just sky rocketed. Commentsold created Mindy’s an APP so we can go live on Facebook and our app at the same time !! It gave us the ability to scale the business to surpass even my biggest goals. Now with the Boutique doing super well my husband and I are in the process of creating our own makeup line called Rebel Raven hopefully to be releasing this summer!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Tons of struggles! In the beginning, we were growing so fast but had no way to get any capital, so we had to use our last dollars many times to stay open! My first employee stole over 10k in our first year which was heartbreaking because I thought she was a friend. Still have back problems, so that is for sure an obstacle.

What were you like growing up?
I was really into sports like cheerleading, volleyball, and most of all, powerlifting I was heartbroken when I got hurt and couldn’t do sports. I think most would say I was fun and the life of the party and always like to make people laugh. Even though I have the mouth of a sailor, I really have a caring heart.
