Meet Misty Davis of Mystix_Panda in DFW Metroplex

Today we’d like to introduce you to Misty Davis.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Misty. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Well since I was a child I had always been fascinated with costumes and make up. I remember getting into my mom’s clothes and putting things together through on her heels and dressing up like my favorite cartoon characters or putting a towel around my neck and being a superhero. Which video games really pushed me to want to start making my own props and gadgets for my costumes. I mostly had been making my own original characters until I turned 17 and my passion for anime, comics, and games got super strong. I finally had gotten to go to my first convention and made my first Anime costumes with my friends. From that moment on I couldn’t stop myself. Cosplaying turned into cosplay modeling over the years and because of the doors that had been opening for me with cosplay modeling people are now also getting to see my art. Being an artist in all different shape and forms ( I draw , I sew , I build props , I paint ,sing , and model ) has been so rewarding and has opened my eyes and heart to so many new things and new people. So honestly passion, passion has gotten me where I am today. That and blood sweat and tears!!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been very difficult to make it in the field that I am trying to make it in. Honestly it is tough when you have so many people who want to make it in the same field as you and with the way everything depends on social media nowadays, it makes it extremely hard to fight the crowd so people can hear about your brand. It is a constant thing. You have to literally be on almost all day and stay active all day and make sure your name gets out there as much as possible. So it takes a lot of time and dedication all while trying to make your art. That in itself can take from a day up to months depending on what you are doing. Finding the right material , watching things fall apart that you worked hard on , spilling something on a drawing that you spent hours on, hot gluing your hands together…the struggles are real. However I feel that the struggles are what makes it so rewarding in the end.

Mystix_Panda – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Well I am a Jack of all trades!! I am a cosplay model, prop maker, costume maker, artist, and a makeup artist. However I am most known for my Cosplay modeling. I do however plan on showing more of my drawings and painting in the near future. I also started live streaming on Twitch with my gaming and everything since gaming is a huge passion of mine as well. I enjoy drawing so much I would love to share it with anyone who wants to see!! My last project doing Borderlands was my most proud moment. The amount of work I did for a group of 5 people with costumes and make up and building and painting props it was intense but very rewarding in the end. What sets me apart from everyone else is my style. I am a tattooed nerd with her own style of doing things. I put my own spin on everything. I think everyone has their own style and that is what sets us apart from one another.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
BORDERLANDS!! Lol I believe that doing that was the most amazing moment. I spent month’s cell shading and gluing, painting and sewing, styling wigs and building props. Then when the big day came for a reveal, my cosplay group and I ended up making a big impression. We got told that our cosplay had made them smile, some reacted in complete aw and the kind words and loving things people were saying and doing just made every bit of tears and sweat worth it. We ended up being in the Dallas Observer 2 times , multiple videos , thousands of pics , and being retweeted by Gearbox which… That made me so proud!!
