Meet Morgan Chaisson of The Chi Chi Boutique in Downtown, Dallas Farmers Market

Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Chaisson.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Morgan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am a native Texan, born and raised on Galveston Island. Growing up, I always had an undeniable desire for fashion, style, and creating. I wanted so badly to experience what was outside of my island, so following high school, I moved to Dallas to fulfill my goals and big dreams in the fashion world. In August 2009 I graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of North Texas, gaining a degree in Fashion Design and a minor in Fashion Merchandising. After graduation and obtaining a job working for a merchandising company, I soon became sucked into a miserable cycle of late nights and early mornings in what seemed to me as a dead-end job. With every passing day, I felt a little bit of my soul being blasted away and felt like a total sellout busting my a** every day for someone else’s dream. A bit dramatic, I know but really, what was I doing there?! I knew I had way more to offer myself than sitting at a desk with nothing to look forward to except for going home at the end of the day. There wasn’t a single day that went by when I didn’t make up excuses in my mind to just not come back (insert I.Just.Can’t). I even started giving myself creativity points- the crazier the better. And thus, the dream of having my own shop and being my own boss was born.

The boutique launched online in 2016 and had our first pop up a few months after at a local high school craft fair. Since then TCCB has participated in over 60 events all around DFW including The Galveston Women’s Conference, The Boho Markets in Dallas, Market at The Star x FleaStyle, and will be showing for the first time at the Chi Omega’s 42 Annual Christmas Market at Fair Park this November. I really love setting up for events and markets. It’s fun having that one on one experience helping women shop. There’s something about finding that perfect piece for that one customer and it making her day. I just love that! We are mega pumped for the shopping extravaganza coming up, though. It’s going to be something else for sure.

We can now be found holding residence inside of a GEORGEOUS shop, downtown called Simply Irresistible. It’s a beautifully curated space shared by many talented vendors consisting of boutique clothing, jewelry, home goods, and furniture. We opened at the end of August and couldn’t be more pleased with how excited customers are to have us there. I love the way things have worked out so far. This arrangement allows me to stay at home with my son and essentially work from home during the week.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I think for many small business owners, finding balance is a common challenge.

For me, now, it is family-work life balance. Doing all the things a mama needs to do is enough! But then you are still a wife and a boutique owner who wears 25.5 hats, haha! Between a growing baby and a growing boutique, we are always on our toes. It’s a lot sometimes, but I feel so lucky to have this life and the support from him and those around me. It literally could not be done without help along the way, And I am so thankful for that.

Please tell us about Chi Chi Boutique.
The Chi Chi Boutique is a carefully curated collection created for the fun & fearless trendsetting romantic who isn’t afraid to express herself. We like to keep things sassy, classy and always a little bad assey. Our goal is to create a go-to shopping destination for unique affordable pieces offering must-have looks. The Chi Chi Boutique makes the shopping experience an exciting and simpler process for the fashion-forward beauty by bringing the looks to you, whether it be online, in-store, or literally in your living room by booking the boutique for a private event.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
So, I guess it will sound sort of generic but you really learn to not give up and work your hardest when you’re a business owner. After making the rookie mistakes, I learned to work smarter. I’d also say making good relationships has helped me a lot through the years.

A few of my favorite quotes will sum up some lessons learned:

“You’re killing yourself for a job that would replace you within a week if you dropped dead…” -unknown

“Small deliberate actions inspired by your true desires create a life you love.” -Danielle LaPorte

“Love the life you have while you create the life of your dreams.” -Hal Elrod
