Meet Morgan Fenton of Modish Boutique in Colleyville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Fenton.

Morgan, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
The women in my family have always been very interested in fashion and keeping up with the latest brands and current trends. We have always talked about opening a boutique and running it together some day. I decided to get my Merchandising degree from the University of North Texas, as their Merchandising program is one of the best in the nation. Last year I completed an internship at The Gypsy Wagon (on Henderson) in Dallas. I learned a lot at this internship as I got an insight into all aspects of running a boutique. After my internship ended and I graduated last May, my family and I began planning to open a boutique of our own. It took a couple months of planning but everything fell into place at exactly the right time and we were able to open in August of 2016. I am the one in store almost every day doing the day to day tasks and running the store, however, Modish is definitely a collaborative effort with my entire family.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I must say it has been a pretty smooth road so far! One unfortunate circumstance is the construction that started right in front of our store a couple of months after opening. We were very worried at first but it hasn’t seemed to impact us too much so far! Customer service is huge for us, so we find that business keep getting better every month despite the circumstances! The construction is still going on and will be until next year so we continue to be grateful that our customers go out of their way to keep coming back!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Modish Boutique – what should we know?
We mostly specialize in clothing and accessories; however, we do offer some gifts, home & baby items as well. In the future, we hope to expand more into these other subcategories. Most of the buying is done with my mom and sister so we strive to buy items that many different demographics and generations can wear in different ways. I think this is what sets us apart from most other boutiques. We try to have something for everyone at Modish. We also try to support local businesses whenever possible and our customers seem to really enjoy this. What we have the most fun with and what were most proud of is getting involved with our community and giving back. We host several fundraisers at the store where different organizations or charities send people into shop and then we give a percentage of the sales back to the organization. We have also worked with several sororities at TCU to help raise funds for their philanthropies.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I think it all comes back around to customer service and offering unique items in store. Our customers end up becoming good friends of ours. We look forward to seeing them every week and hearing about how their lives are going! I would say it’s also all about the little things. We write a personal hand written note for every online order that is placed or any orders that are placed over the phone. There have been several times that customers have placed orders but weren’t able to make it into the store and I have even dropped the items off at their homes for them! The little things that we can do to make people happy really resonate with our customers and go a long way!
