Today we’d like to introduce you to Nancy Gonzalez.
Nancy, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I would be lying if I didn’t say watching a million dollar listing had some effect on choosing my career. Nonetheless, I chose to quit school (college) after realizing selling real estate is the career I wanted to do. I immediately enrolled to real estate school.
When I naturally understood everything about the real estate concept – the legal descriptions, contracts, all the condition terms – I knew I made the right decision. I started out in luxury residential leasing when living in Austin and when I moved to Dallas. After a couple yrs of leasing, I decided to jump into residential sales. Today business is steady. I continue to sell not only residential homes but I also have had the opportunity in selling commercial real estate as well.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing is ever easy or smooth. Leaving corporate America which offers several benefits and a constant paycheck was and still is a struggle. As an independent contractor, I am responsible for everything from business expenses, my own pay to other general necessities. When your commission only, your mindset and your decisions are heavily affected. You have to learn how to stay focus and persistent.
Alright – so let’s talk business. What else should we know about your work?
My business has primarily been focused on sellers wanting to sell their home. I’ve worked with a lot of FSBO (for sale by owners) by colding calling which is predominantly how I gained my business. As well as referrals, social media and past clients from leasing. Often times, you have high expectations from clients or people who don’t believe in your abilities. Proving them wrong by executing my duties as an agent and knowing I overcame those challenges are my biggest proud moments. (trust me there are lot of times your anxiety levels are on high).
I feel what sets me apart is that I gravitate (somehow) to that one who no one wants to work with because they’re too much and don’t have time for them. I choose to understand and listen to why they’re that way despite knowing they’re crazy, but so is everyone else including me.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Sounds cliche but every sale is honestly a proud moment because you help someone put a roof over their head or assist them to their next step towards their future, When it’s all said and done, it feels good to be apart of someone else’s big accomplishment – whether they’re buying or selling a home. It’s a rewarding feeling when you help someone else who most likely thought they could never.
