Today we’d like to introduce you to Patsy Heffernan.
Patsy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve always loved to take photos and I’ve always loved children, so putting the two together just seemed kind of natural! As a kid, I can remember sitting around sifting through old photographs, imagining the story they are telling. And as I got older and became a wife and a mom, I wanted our story to be documented and remembered just like those old photographs I used to spend hours looking through. So when I started my photography journey, I decided that above all, I wanted to capture those moments for others and help tell their story.
I started learning about cameras and photography when I was in high school and the passion has always followed me through the various chapters of my life. When I was pregnant with my daughter I decided to take a giant leap of faith and turn my passion into a business! My style has changed a few times over the years, but the one thing that hasn’t changed is my love for those tender moments for a family. Those are moments you can’t ever get back and I want everyone to be able to hang on to those treasured times forever.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think any business is a smooth road. Of course, there are struggles and obstacles along the way, but I believe it has made me a better photographer and stronger for my business. Starting a business from scratch is never easy, but I had a huge support system around me to help me through the bumps along the way! The first year was the hardest, but looking back now I don’t regret one second of how things have gone for me.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Patsy Lynne Photography – what should we know?
My business is Patsy Lynne Photography and I am a family and children’s photographer. I specialize in lifestyle photos where I focus on the interaction between a family and their special dynamic. I love capturing the authentic you and freezing those playful moments in time. I am most proud of the fact that I am a small business making it in a corporate world.
It’s hard to be a one-person operation and get your business off the ground, so I’m really proud that I’ve been able to do that. I wouldn’t say that my photography style sets me apart. Let’s be honest, there are so many amazing photographers out there! But what does set me apart is me and my goofy personality. My clients love that I am real with them and don’t hesitate to be silly or play with their kids. Everyone quickly relaxes and we just have so much fun during the photo shoots!
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I am incredibly detail oriented. I focus on the small details when I’m taking photos. For instance, the little baby curls on the back of their head, or the gorgeous long eyelashes of a little girl, or that sweet moment when mom and dad look at their kids with such love and adoration.
It’s the details that capture our emotions and that’s what I love to focus on. But I’m also incredibly detailed behind the scenes as well. When sifting through images I make sure that clients are getting the best of the best, and then I edit each one to make sure they are top quality. With each photo shoot, I am pouring my heart and soul into all of the tiny details to ensure my clients love their photos!
