Meet Porscha Newman of WeaveMaster Porscha in Desoto

Today we’d like to introduce you to Porscha Newman.

Porscha, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am 38 years old, married to Nathaniel Newman, whom has always supported me since the beginning. I have two beautiful children (London and Paris). I have always had a passion for hair/beauty/fashion. I started out in cosmetology my junior year in high school. I went off to college thinking that it was for me but after completing one year at Texas southern university I decided I wanted to do what I loved. Hair. I became a full-time hairstylist in 2009.

These last ten years have not been the easiest but I can say that they have made me the person/stylist I am today. There were many times I wanted to give up but I was taught that failure is not an option. The joy of seeing beautiful women leave out your chair with a different attitude than what they walked in with is “priceless”. I love what I do.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Being in this industry is hard because there are so many stylists doing the same work but you have to stay consistent, remain humble and have faith that your season is also coming. Word of mouth can be good and bad but you have to keep at it. I’m my #1 critic. I’m just competing with myself to be better than I was yesterday.

WeaveMaster Porscha – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I promote and can work with all her types but I specialize in weave/hair extensions. I am known for my divine bobs. What makes me proud and smile is when people hear my name, they say “I heard about you”. I want to be known for my talent. Not just by popularity.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Every year I set out goals for myself and I’m not stopping until they are met. It’s hard for me to give up without a fight, or research of some sort. When that goal is met, I’ve succeeded!!!!!
