Meet Savannah Myles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Savannah Myles.

Savannah, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Growing up I was never big on wearing a lot of makeup and never really cared to. During my early college years, I started working at Ulta Beauty as a cashier. I was new to the world of beauty, but over time I quickly learned about prestige makeup brands and what the hot products were at the time. It was exciting and fun, but I still never thought of beauty as a career.

In my later college years, while attending UNT, I was working a job in the food industry and wanted out fast! I learned that a Sephora was opening up and I applied as soon as I found out. I started working at Sephora as a Product Consultant where I helped customers find the products and did makeup applications. It was scary at first because by then I had mastered my own face but I had no experience with putting makeup on other people. As time went on I got more comfortable and learned from the ladies around me. Beauty becomes more than just looking pretty to me, I learned it was a way that I could connect with people and make them feel special. That gave me a feeling of fulfillment and from then on I knew I had to have a career in beauty!

This was back in 2014 when YouTube’s beauty community was growing at a fast rate and people were able to make being an influencer a full-time job. I started watching YouTubers like Kandee Johnson, Beatfacehoney and Jaclyn Hill where I learned makeup tips and tricks. I remember having thoughts of starting my own YouTube channel, but I was a broke college student and I thought I had to have a fancy camera and expensive lighting equipment to even consider doing YouTube.

I graduated from college in 2015 with a Merchandising degree and found a job with a clothing retailer as a manager. I truly wasn’t happy and decided to quit and move back home to figure out what I really wanted to do with my life. I knew this was my chance to move forward with the YouTube channel I always had planted in the back of my head. My brother is a music artist and needed to start taking professional photos and I needed a camera to start filming so we went in half on a camera. I then started my YouTube channel Savannah LaDell that focuses on beauty with makeup tutorials and reviews on hot new makeup. I have a small community, but I love it and I hope to grow the community even bigger and inspire people around the world. Today I’m back in Dallas working in the beauty industry and in spare time I put my heart and soul in creating beauty content for my YouTube and Instagram.

Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road! I had no idea what I was doing when I first started my YouTube channel, but I quickly learned that I had to do my research in order to grow. I taught myself how to edit videos which was a struggle at first but with practice, it got better. I can’t tell you the amount of times I somehow deleted a whole video I had already edited and had to start over!

Another struggle a lot of us new YouTubers go through is not feeling like we’re growing fast enough. I spend hours filming and editing and sometimes the response I get on videos isn’t that hot. I’ve learned to spin this into a tool to better learn what my audience likes and doesn’t. The goal in this is consistency and I truly believe in what I’m doing so no matter how much I feel like giving up at times I always have a little voice in my head saying “keep going this is just a test”.

YouTube is not my full-time job so finding a balance has always been a struggle for me. I’ve learned planning ahead is a major key and with time I hope to master this better.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I’m a beauty influencer with a YouTube channel Savannah LaDell where I focus on all things beauty through makeup tutorials and reviews on the hottest brands. My goal is to inspire others through my creativity and give my honest experiences on opinions on products and services in the beauty industry. I believe what sets me apart from others is that I’m always true to who I am. I let my flaws show to let my community see that I’m not perfect and I’m just like them! I have a goofy side and I try to let that show through my videos because makeup should be fun and not so serious all the time!

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I’m from Tyler, Texas where everybody knows each other and there’s not that many career opportunities in beauty so relocating back to Dallas has been refreshing. There are more options here and more people who are in my industry to connect with. I can’t stand the amount of construction and traffic here, it drives me crazy!
