Meet Sean Kim and Danielle Riley Gallo of Kairos Design in Oak Cliff

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sean Kim and Danielle Riley Gallo.

Sean and Danielle, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Sean Kim: My background is in illustration, but I’ve always had interest in design as a concept, and how it is a constant presence in our everyday lives. I started working as a graphic designer in the fashion industry and ended up working as a denim designer for companies like Original Penguin.

When I noticed that there was a huge disconnect between small businesses in-person and online, I decided to form a design agency to help other entrepreneurs like me to gain online presence with their own brand and visual identity. Danielle joined a year after I launched the agency and she is as equally passionate about helping small businesses! With our shared ideas and passion, we’ve grown pretty much based on word-of-mouth.

Danielle Riley Gallo: My background is in graphic design and photography, but I’ve always had a passion to help small business owners create the brand they have strived to become. After interning at the Livestrong Foundation in Austin, my interest in working with non-profits grew tremendously. I’ve had the amazing opportunity to become a part of Sean’s team at Kairos and together we are changing the way small businesses are viewed across their market.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
What’s challenging but also fun is that no two projects are identical. Every company’s identity and problems are different and therefore, the right solution is never the same as the next one.

For us internally, we’re still challenging ourselves to make the process from start to end as clear and fast as possible. We’re a nimble team of five and all of us wear multiple hats as our own secretary, legal team, HR department, marketing department, customer service, business manager, etc.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We help companies or entrepreneurs to communicate their identity and presence. This typically starts with branding and a website — then finding ways to tell their stories to the right audiences, using the right channels.

Since we’re small and work closely with our clients on their marketing, we’re able to maintain a consistent brand voice throughout various channels, which is key to communicating one’s identity.

Our team is young, ranging from 20s to 30s, and we enjoy collaborating with passionate minds. Most days, we all work remotely from outdoors, interesting cafes, or office spaces and communicate online or via the phone.

Therefore, we’re able to work effectively with companies across different states or countries, not bound by location.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least about our city?
Our main headquarters is currently based in New Jersey, right across George Washington Bridge from New York City. We continually meet lots of entrepreneurs from both states.

When Sean visited Texas last summer, he loved the community in Dallas, and was immediately inspired to open another location in the city.

We’re new in Dallas but we love it so far! We are a big fan of the casual, laid back atmosphere, which is a change of pace from the speed of New York.
