Meet Stevan Hass of Hass Productions

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stevan Hass.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I had messed around a bit with graphics and making stickers in high school. After graduation, I wasn’t quite sure what direction my life was going and sort of stumbled into my career. I met a guy who did graphic design for Funimation, he was working on Dragonball Z movie posters, which was quickly becoming one of my favorite shows of all time. He was doing an advanced version of what I did in school, so I decided to take my talents to a trade school for graphic arts. When I got the knowledge and basic experience I needed, I actually quit early and found a job at a small sign company in West Fort Worth, Sign World. From there, I went to be a graphic designer at the Fast Signs, formerly located by Texas Motor Speedway. In mid-summer 2006, I made the switch to Signs Now in North Richland Hills, where I stayed until 2014. There, I grew my skills working with some amazing people and friends I still have today. I eventually ended up transitioning with that store through an ownership change and running it for roughly 7 years. It was about 2010 when I first started up Hass Productions, my freelance design and Production Company. It was just time to make my own mark while still growing my skills and customer base until it was a company able to support itself. Started of doing show and event flyers for social media, banners, signs and stickers for a few local organizations and bands and it grew from there. I am also part of a small apparel company, Mother Earther, who does mainly parody clothing designs and collectible hat pins. We have just branched out with a line of purses that fit our company theme, which draws more eyes! Most people know me for stickers and banners, and I am happy to be that guy!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The art game is never really “smooth”. There are ups and downs in work flow, you may not always be slammed with work. I did go through a transition from working at one place for quite a long time to bouncing around for a bit, which is never fun, and lost a handful of customers along the way. But, that gave me a chance to re-energize myself and start fresh, more or less. Offering a hard product kind of keeps that road a little less rough though, I will admit.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Hass Productions offers graphic design for most things, although I fell out of practice on web design, which I regret. However, I do most other forms and do a ton of local show flyers, logo design for bands and businesses. Out of those designs, I also make digitally printed banners, stickers and other signage those people may need. Stickers are probably my most popular product, they are cheap and easy to help promote any business or brand.

If I had to pick something I am most proud of, it’s currently my works with 6-7 of the voice actors for Dragonball. That show is why I am here today doing this and it’s basically a dream come true to work with and for all of them! My other business, Mother Earther, is really starting to take off… in big part to the owner, Christopher Dickerson. That is a big passion of mine and even though we may butt heads, we are making big strides. We were a vendor at the last Vans Warped Tour, which has to be on this list too!

What were you like growing up?
I grew up with my family in Colorado. Was and always have been a “nerd” and am proud of it! I did play organized soccer and basketball off and on, was in the school band for a few years and was always into video games. The 80’s were a different time, we did all the crazy stuff you are not supposed to do. But I wouldn’t trade those years for anything. Personality wise, I’ve always been quiet and a bit shy but tend to open up once I feel more comfortable in my environment. Always laid back and try to be a “realistic optimist” as I put it… meaning I can usually see both sides and their value, whatever it may be, but like to keep my eyes on the positive side as much as I can!
