Today we’d like to introduce you to Tim Conkle.

Tim, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I worked at EDS for years as a UNIX Administrator and knew that working for someone else the rest of my life wasn’t for me. As I was scouring the classifieds in the Dallas Morning News, I saw an ad that an IT company, Roland Technology Group, was for sale. I had already started my own computer repair shop out of my house and it was quickly growing. I thought this was the best way to accelerate and fuel that growth which is how I became the owner of Roland Technology Group.

Has it been a smooth road?
I bounced along for 20 years with anemic growth. I crafted a unique sales proposition that differentiated Roland Technology Group and built a team that provided excellent service delivery to our clients. What I couldn’t figure out was how to get my phone to ring. I tried every avenue on the market until one day I decided to take the reins and after a period of time and a significant investment, I mastered lead generation with Google Adwords. Once I put all of those pieces together, Roland Technology Group grew exponentially. Soon after, I realized that every single IT company experiences the exact same issues which is how The 20 came into existence. The 20 provides IT companies the exact same tools and formulas so that all of its members can duplicate that same growth in their businesses.

Texas is overall a fantastic state for business. The Dallas market specifically is great for both building a local or national business. If someone was just starting out, I would recommend Dallas based on whether their products were. Overall, Dallas has a good business climate and as long as it’s a good business atmosphere, companies can thrive without being stifled by over regulation.
