Today we’d like to introduce you to Tom Voelker, Tony Logan, Kenneth Gamble, and Curtis Winchester.
Gentlemen, please kick things off for us. We’d love to hear the story.
The roots of Jewelry Theory actually date back over a decade ago. Three friends, Tony, Kenneth, and Curtis, decided to venture out on their own and open up a jewelry manufacturing and repair shop. We quickly established a reputation for quality work delivered on time. We began manufacturing custom pieces for many local jewelers, which led to the utilization of CAD, computer aided design. In 2014, we outgrew the office they had developed in for years, and were forced to look for a new location that could house a business of our size.
After a thorough search we found a spot that would be perfect for our needs. Irving Boulevard in South Dallas, the heart of the Dallas Design District. Surrounded by high end furniture shops, cutting edge fashion houses, and some of Dallas’ trendiest restaurants and clubs, our high-tech jewelry manufacturing company fit right in. Another advantage of this location was additional space to plan and build out something that Tony had been dreaming of for years, Dallas’ first jewelry architectural studio. This was the birth of Jewelry Theory. In November of 2014, after many meetings and conversations with Tony, Tom came on board as a partner and the four of us officially opened Jewelry Theory for business.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
So far, the first three years have been extremely smooth going for us. It’s been incredible actually. Since all the partners have worked in some of the big box and chain jewelry stores, we all have a firm idea on what we want to be and what we don’t want to be. We’ve just stayed focused on that and our clients seem very appreciative of our philosophy.
Please tell us about Jewelry Theory.
We are more than just a jewelry store. We are a jewelry architectural studio. We take our clients drawings, ideas, concepts, images, etc. and use those to design custom, one of a kind pieces of jewelry. Once we have the CAD (computer aided design) of the new piece, we can render it right there for the client so they can see what it will look like before we start any manufacturing. At this point we can make changes, tweaks, and adjustments so our clients get exactly what they imagined. From here we use our 3D printers to create a wax model of the ring that our clients can try on and get a feel for. Once this is approved we use the wax to cast the jewelry, and then set the stones and do final finish out and any other detail work, like hand engraving.
We specialize in high quality, one of a kind custom jewelry. Because we do everything in our own studio, we can make it better, in much less time, and much more affordably that anywhere else.
What sets us apart is again, we do everything ourselves. From design, casting, stone setting, to final polish and detailing, every step is done by us. Most places that do custom, you talk to a sales person who contacts a designer, who contacts a jeweler, and so on. Most of the time is taken up in going back and forth, and the client never even talks or meets the person actually doing the work. With us you do.
What we are most proud of as a company is that without exception, all of our clients are not only happy with the jewelry, but they had a great time being part of the process. They love the experience.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
The only thing we would do differently is start years ago. We have way too much fun doing what we do.
