Meet Tonja Wells of Herbal Health Solutions in North Richland Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tonja Wells.

So, before we jump into specific questions about what you do, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In 1989, I went on a shopping excursion with my girlfriend. As we were walking up a hill to the car, I began having shooting pains in both my knees. At the time, I gave very little thought to it, but over the next several days and weeks the pain began to worsen. After several weeks of ignoring the symptoms, I finally made an appointment to see our family doctor. He was puzzled as to the origin of the pain but gave me some painkillers and anti-inflammatory drugs. They did nothing for the pain. A few weeks later, I found myself back in the doctors’ office, but this time with severe pain shooting down the muscles of my arms. Again, unsure of the origin my doctor sent me home with yet another prescription. Only a few weeks had passed and the pain was worsening, so I went to see him for the third time. This time, I was suffering from chest pain and was beginning to wake up continually through the night. Finally, he concluded there must be a link to all these problems and decided to send me to see a neurologist.
The neurologist ran a multitude of painful tests, eliminating lupus, MS, and Lyme’s disease. The neurologist thought putting me on steroids would help the pain. The steroids upset my stomach so greatly that I began throwing up every day to the point that I had to have an upper GI. The drugs gave me a pre-ulcerous condition.

Therefore, along with the pain, I still suffered from I was also continually throwing up with an ulcer. Still without a diagnosis, my MD sent me to several more specialists. One doctor specialized in arthritic diseases. His diagnosis was “To go home get some rest and to tell my husband to do more around the house, and I would feel better. With the symptoms worsening and no answers or relief in sight my family doctor sent me to a DO (Dr. of Osteopathy). Unfortunately, she had no answers but put me on a drug to help me sleep since by this time, I would wake up several times each night. She told me I was the healthiest sick person she had ever seen.

Finally, in desperation, I went back to my family doctor who had just read an article on Fibromyalgia. I had never heard of it but was excited to finally get information on any possible diagnosis. As I began researching Fibromyalgia, I realized this matched the symptoms I had. I went to a support group and began educating myself on the disease. I found a DO who specialized in Fibromyalgia and I began getting strain counter strain therapy. While this was very beneficial, it was not the complete answer. I was determined not to live the rest of my life with pain. I began taking a few herbs and found some relief. I told a friend of mine what I had been doing. She told me that she was also taking herbs and encouraged me to go see her herbalist. My friend told me her herbalist had designed a program for her and how successful it was. At this point, having met my 100 percent insurance deductible three years in a row and having only health to gain I decided to go.

The herbalist began working with me to balance my health, which included herbs to strengthen my thyroid, adrenals and nervous system. We work extensively with my digestive system and used a combination of Hops, Valerian and Passion Flower for sleep. A few months later, I began detoxifying my liver and went through a series of parasite cleanses which included a candida program. One year later, I was pain-free. As friends began seeing the transformation in me, they began asking me what I was doing. I would tell them about the herbs I was taking. My friends would ask me to find out what would help them. My friends had the same positive results with their health issues as I did. I finally decided to go to school and obtain my certification as my phone began ringing off the wall from people who had heard I could help them. I wanted the tools to be able to help those around me as my herbalist had helped me. I obtained one certification after another.
