Meet Tracie Billings of Turquoise Cactus Boutique

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tracie Billings.

Tracie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
The boutique started really unexpectedly….. I was laid off from my job with Corporate America of 16 years and decided to follow my dreams! My husband and I talked about it and it seemed like the perfect time to start the business. We didn’t have much money to start and I wanted to start first as an ONLINE ONLY boutique to see how customers liked our style. Within one year, I open a storefront and within two years opening in a different location, double the size of the first location.

We went from business hours of Thursday thru Sunday 3-6pm to Tues thru Sat 10-6pm. We had no employees originally and hired one employee within a year and two more the following year. I have been very blessed and the business has grown and maintained our customer base. We are a small town boho with a western flair boutique with women’s clothing and accessories and GREAT GIFTS!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Owning your own business is always a challenge and comes with its obstacles. You just have to make good business decisions. When you don’t, things come crashing down AND you learn from your mistakes. I have over purchased, purchased items that customers didn’t care for, you name it, I’ve done it but I have always learned.

Turquoise Cactus Boutique – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The Turquoise Cactus Boutique specializes in boho, trendy clothing and accessories with a western flair. We carry business casual clothes to rodeo ready clothes.

We recently started carrying jeans and shoes as well and they have done very well!

We are known for our friendly and welcoming customer service and that I am very proud of! We speak to every person that walks in our doors and try to get to know them personally. We like for people to know they are not only our customers but our friends.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment is when people recognize me in the “real” world and compliment how wonderful their experience was at our boutique.
