Today we’d like to introduce you to Julia Berit.
Julia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am an influencer, plus size model and a college student at the University of Oklahoma! I started out by doing small roles and extra work on the locally filmed show Queen of the South which sparked my love for working in the entertainment industry. When I was 19 (in 2017), I moved to Los Angeles for a few months to pursue a career in modeling which lead to my working for a company called Ta-Ta Towel! I honestly didn’t think anyone would ever see any of my work, but in August of last year, the Ta-Ta Towel went viral. By viral I mean my photos were featured in over 60 countries on websites like Teen Vogue, Buzzfeed, BBC News, even the James Cordon Show!
That was just the beginning for me. Shortly after the “viral” moment, I was signed by Dorothy Combs Models and my real modeling career began. Getting to where I am now has been lots of plane rides, hard work, photoshoots, selfies and Instagram collaborations – but I am so excited to see where the next year of my career goes!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The biggest challenge for me was worrying about what other people think. To be successful in the modeling/ influencer world, you need to take chances and be bold. I think back on all of the decisions I’ve made, and I know I would not have this career if I hadn’t moved to LA for a few months last year. I’m not saying you need to move across the country or quit your day job to be successful, but you do need to act for yourself and the life that you want to be living.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a signed plus-size model who works in LA and NYC most frequently and an influencer on Instagram! You can find my work for companies like Macy’s, Unique Vintage, Curve Girl and KAOHS Swim just to name a few. On Instagram, what I am “known” for is just being proud of my body and being positive about that while sharing my favorite clothes and my modeling work. I also have a series on Instagram called #FITSMEFRIDAY where I talk about a different brand each week that fits women that are in between straight sizes and plus sizes! You can find all of that on my profile @julia.berit
What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
Don’t wait for the approval from others – just do what you love and what you believe in and the success will follow. But don’t go into a career thinking that it will evolve overnight.
