Meet Trailblazer Kamri Hickman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kamri Hickman.

Kamri, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My journey into modeling began when I was much younger, around the age of 12 .I was inspired by Tyra Banks ANTM like any other young, aspiring models. I truly desired to be one of those beautiful girls, practicing facial expressions, runway walking, turns and everything “modeling” in the mirror in hopes of following in several ANTM winners footsteps. I truly believe I have found my passion, Modeling is a creative outlet for me as well as a career. I’ve gained more confidence and a true love for myself, I have become more comfortable in the body God has given me. I feel in love with this craft at a rough time in my life, so I hold my career to a very high standard. Expressing myself through this craft means the world to me. My goal for my modeling career is to learn more about my craft, as well as network, network, network. I currently represent myself and I am currently pitching myself to different agencies.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey in following my dreams have been challenging, Although I believe one day all of my hard work & sacrifices will all pay off. I face obstacles daily however, it’s my goal to overcome them and be stronger because of them. My gem of advice for all women who are curious about exploring the modeling industry is to always stay true to yourself and your values and to always believe in yourself . This industry is full of individuals who do not have your best interest at heart and if you believe in yourself, work on your craft and hard work, I believe you will be able to achieve your goals. One of my favorite quotes is “You can’t cheat the hustle.”

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Kamri Hickman – what should we know?
I am a Dallas Texas runway & print model.  I specialize in runway and I am slowly making a transition into commercial print modeling world.  As I grace the runway at 5’1 with my very own Naomi Campbell /Giselle Budchen style of walk on the runway. I definitely add my own flare to any fashion show/event I attend. I am most proud of myself for building the “Kamri Hickman” brand from the ground up, which requires hard work daily. Consistent networking has put me in front of people who have been able to move my career forward and get me much needed exposure! I believe what sets me apart from others is my drive,  passion and hard work. I want this more than I breathe…I remember driving to Dallas to casting calls with little to no gas in my car however because I believe in my dream and myself, I stepped out on faith and trusted in God.

What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
Consistency is key, this is my moto. Habits I have incorporated into my life include practicing facial expressions, posing every night before I go to bed and studying  my craft every moment I possibly can. When I  have a short break at work or free time, I google questions I may have about modeling, I constantly do research on my favorite model and get to know his/her story on how they started their journey. In closing, my advice to young aspiring models is that you will feel fear but do it anyway!
