Meet Trailblazer Mahasweta Singh

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mahasweta Singh.

Mahasweta, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have a Master’s degree in Psychology and have three years of work experience as a primary school teacher.

My journey as a baker started when I took a break from my professional career and moved to the US in 2016.

Before I made my first bake, I remember spending sleepless nights reading baking books and watching YouTube videos. That’s when I realized that my interest has turned into my passion.

I wanted to pursue my passion and I’m proud to say that I’m a self-taught baker. The truth is though, that I love what I do, and I’m extremely passionate about baking.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, It has not been. I can assure you that. You really struggle learning your craft in situations that’re not ideal.
I’ve faltered umpteen number of times, but you have to be ready to fight your way through.

I guess I’ve inherited this quality from my Mom who bakes delicious simple cakes in our age-old oven. I couldn’t have done it without the support of my husband and my daughter.

There is no success without failure and no baker is born perfect. So, don’t be afraid to do trial and error to find that flavorful combination.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I’m a proud mom and homemaker. A YouTuber, self-taught baker popularly known as “themuffinbowl” on Instagram.

I love making whipped cream cakes rather than buttercream and I’m much appreciated for it. My bakes are always with fresh cream with fondant accents.

Baking that perfect cake is like a stress reliever for me. It uplifts my spirit to know that your bake is being appreciated. Those smiles and joy draws me to experiment with new flavors and keep learning.

Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
I can’t tell you how much I’ve learned from random stuff, be it YouTube, Google, Books, or just by observing people and gaining insights.

The only way to get a mentor is about practicing self-leadership, so I create small roles for myself and learn from my mistakes.
