Meet Trailblazer Sanna Khoja

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sanna Khoja.

Sanna, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Hi, my name is Sanna Khoja and professionally I am a clinical pharmacist with a focus on transplants, working at a major hospital in the DFW area. While I love my day-to-day, I wanted to find a creative outlet from work, and Bollyvogue Style was born. I was inspired by people always asking me questions about the South Asian outfits I wore, where I got them and for how much. Peoples inquiries became more frequent after I got married, as they wanted to know about my wedding outfits and other wedding-related details. This gave me an idea and an opportunity. If people were genuinely interested in my fashion advice as well as my wedding planning advice, why not create a platform for it? #bollvoguestyle was born!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It is sometimes difficult because you start comparing yourself to others and that can never go over well. My niche is narrow – mostly South Asian fashion and South Asian weddings! I have thought about expanding my blog to fashion in general, however, I do have a passion specifically for South Asian fashion and culture so I’m staying the course. My advice to other women starting their journey would be to just start – and don’t change your audience because people tell you to. You have nothing to lose. Many people are scared that people will judge you, but they probably already do. My best advice is to make friends with other bloggers on Instagram and find people who will support you. I have a lot of other starting blogger friends who I rely on for support and advice and likewise the other way around.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Bollyvoguestyle – what should we know?
What sets me apart from others is that I am one of the few bloggers that only writes about South Asian fashion with an additional focus on Desi weddings. I think many people sprinkle it in on their site and Instagram page. I am not saying that I won’t move into the direction of fashion in general, but my focus will be South Asian fashion and I hope that women (or men) can find this helpful for them and they can find some fashion inspiration and good wedding advice!

We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
I think the biggest barrier to female leadership is one another! We all want to do well, but never want to see someone do better than us! I think we need to just start supporting each other and count our blessings! Everyone struggles in the beginning and it would be helpful for women to support each other. Everyone would do so much better that way!
