Meet Vanessa Posner of Vendals

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Posner.

Vanessa, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I moved to Dallas about eight years ago being 17 years old to study Fashion Design at the Art Institute of Dallas. while studying there I was lucky to get an opportunity to get an internship for Women’s day Magazine in NYC. I took the job and spent about six months working for them. after that, I moved back to Dallas and worked with a few publications in the area until I started working for a retail company for about two years until one day I decided I would start my clothing line. at this time I was blogging part-time and working retail the other time. Once I had made the decision of pursuing my dream of a clothing line and creating a brand next problem was that I needed the money, so I started researching where to get the money and how much! while I was doing that in a conversation with my boyfriend at the time he decided he wanted to join on this adventure with me as my investor.

October 2016 we opened Vendals (which meant Venezuela my country of origin and Dallas my boyfriends) and started working on designing, producing and creating a brand from scratch in the DFW. We then decided we would do all the production, designing and marketing out of the DFW because it made sense with the brand’s DNA. On August 12th, 2017, we launch vandals with a small collection of nine pieces all tops for women made in the DFW and all made of 100% silk and Silk poplin cotton.

A couple of months after that, we showed a new collection in the Fashion X runway this time we introduced about nine more pieces. We have had many ups and downs along the road and it has definitely not been easy but today we are exactly where we want to be, we have now ventured into the showroom side of the industry housing many different designers from the DFW area to European designers with a private showroom at a secret location that is given to our clients upon request (Voyage Dallas is the first publication to know). And on December 6th, we will be opening a temporary pop-up show in Trinity groves open to the public. also, I am now engaged to marry my boyfriend and investor.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, not at all! I think one of our biggest issues has been producing in the DFW! Even though we have been able to create an amazing team of great people, it’s still difficult because of the few people in the area that does the production. Wait lines are very long and when you are a small brand, you don’t have that much time to wait and that when we have had to roll up our sleeves and do the impossible to get all the things done. I think also getting to know the Dallas market has been difficult because is a market that is like no other incomparable to an NYC or Miami market! We keep learning every day and that is also hard to just understand that every day will be a challenge and you will have to learn something but it is also my favorite part of it all.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Vendals story. Tell us more about your business.
Vendals started in 2016 as a clothing line. Back then, what made us different from other was that we where an all-woman company (but my investor/boyfriend), we were a company made by woman for woman and from all of the profits of the company, a percentage of it would go to a Venezuelan private college to help low-income women get degrees with every 500$ we would be paying for a full scholarship and that made it all come fun circle for us.

Now, fast forward four years, Vandals is not only a clothing line but is a showroom that houses all types of designer under one roof, the service we provide is personalized to help our customer get pieces that will elevate their wardrobe, we serve them with styling tips and many of the lines we have, we are the only place where they can find them in the DFW and like I mentioned is a private store so it is very exclusive. We have champagne in all of our appointments for our guests to have a self-care shopping time and the session lasts as long as they want! Now, we are getting ready to open our pop-shop in trinity groves in December and will be the same concept only that it will be open to the public.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I believe we all have lucky days and not so lucky days but what defines us in success is to work hard on the days that we are being lucky and harder in the ones that we are not.
