Today we’d like to introduce you to Vivian Garcia.
Vivian, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started a little bit after my husband became a truck driver and allowed me to be a stay at home wife. Because we do not have kids, I became very bored after getting my chores done. I own a lot of Yeti and coffee cups and I wanted to add decals to them so I looked online “How to” and I learned about the computer software and machine I needed and I told my husband and soon he bought it for me. Soon I found out how much MORE I can do with my new software and machine, shirts and design on my computer software. It was hard for my husband to get me off my computer at 11:00 pm on a weekend night because I was hungry for learning and projects for my family. Soon after I went back to work because I wanted more money for supplies and more machines.
I thank my husband and my family for being so supportive of me and allowing me to practice with them from the beginning, with cup decals to work shirts to using my name as their recommendation to people they know, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I recently attended my first pop and I was surprised at how supportive and humble small business in Dallas are, I was welcomed so well.
I love the many things I have learned to personalize aside from cups and shirts. I have so many people to thank, for reaching out to me with ideas and allowing me to personalize things for them. To me, it is not more about the money, it is about the feeling and butterflies I feel when a customer loves what I’ve created for them and when they recommend me to their family and friends. This is my therapy!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, the business has not always been a smooth road. When I started, remember I was a stay at home wife, my expectations for growth were high. Soon I across the owner of Letty Duarte Photography, the most encouraging women I know in the local small business world. Her attitude is contagious and it is the one I want to be associated with all the time when I feel discouraged in my small business.
And my husband of course who has been my rock and my right hand in this small business. When it’s become hard or during my mess up’s and big orders, he is there to the rescue.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Aside from everything I am able to personalize, cups, shadow boxes, wooded signs, stickers, signs, walls, home décor my personalized t-shirts and my prices are what stand me out the most. I always try to design shirts that you can not find at the store or Etsy or that you can only find on Etsy but you want to avoid shipping fees or waiting for the mail to come to deliver. Birthday party family t-shirts, wedding shirts, business shirts and concert shirts are pretty much my specialty.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The outcome of every personalized item I have made for a customer, it is rewarding. Also the amount of things I have learned to personalize on my own. I always try to strive to create what I can not find at the store.
